EUR/USD: "Flag" as a sign to the coming new low

6-5-2016-EUR-H4.png

Yesterday the price reached a support at 1.1398, which successfully stopped bears for a while. However, the market is likely going to get the 89 Moving Average in the short term. If a pullback from this line happens, there'll be a chance to see a growth towards a resistance at 1.1453 – 1.1464.

EUR/USD: "Flag" as a sign to the coming new low

We've got a “Flag” on the one-hour chart, so the pair is likely going to achieve the next support near the up-trend’s line. If bears be stopped here, bulls will probably try to catch a resistance at 1.1437.

During the last week the price was fallingl rapidly, breaking the strong support at the level of 4/8 (1.1475). Return to STD1, after the next intersection of STD1 with STH4 is a good buying opportunity. Besides, STH4 has changed colour, therefore you can expect growth at least to the level of 4/8. But the option of the possibility of the pattern 6/8 (1.1597) - 2/8 (1.1353) and a further drop to 2/8 is also not excluded. For this, the pair should again go below 3/8.

Trade Recommendation:

Buy – 1.1430; sl – 1.1388; tp – 1.1475.

USD/JPY: "Hammer" scared all bears away

The nearest “Window” has been broken, so the market is likely going to reach the next “Window” in the short term, because we don’t have any reversal patterns so far. As we can see on the Daily chart, there’re two “Hammers” at the last low. Under this circumstances, the pair is probably going to test the 13 Moving Average.

The price has successfully formed a pullback from the nearest support line, which brought a “Harami” pattern on it. The last candles are bullish, so the market is likely going to taste the upper “Window” shortly.

USD/JPY: bears are banging on the "Window"

There's a pullback from the 89 Moving Average, which led to the current decline. The price has reached the nearest “Window”, but we haven’t got any bullish patterns so far. Therefore, the market is likely going to get a support on the 21 Moving Average. If we see a pullback from this line, there'll be an opportunity to have a new high in the short term. As we can see on the Daily chart, there's a possible “Harami”, so the current correction is likely going to be continued.

The pair has came back to the “Window” again. Previously, a “Harami” has been formed at the last high. The 34 Moving Average can act as a support, so a local correction becomes possible during the day. If we see a pullback from the middle of the last huge black candle, bears will have a chance to deliver a new low

USD/JPY: corridor is between STD1 and 109.38.

Intersection of the STD1 with STH4 was held. At the same time there was a perfect rebound from an important level 4/8 (109.38), what tells about bears intentions to go to the level 2/8 (107.81). The situation remains ambiguous, therefore we can suppose a further price movement between 4/8 and STD1. Considering that STH4 has not change color, the target at the level of 4/8 is likely to be achieved. Breakdown of the aforementioned mark will lead to growth, at least to the level of 5/8 (110.16).

Trade Recommendations:

Buy – 109.60; sl – 109.15; tp – 110.15.

US Dollar: forecast for May 16 - 20

Veix-Goodbye-New-York-Color-1200.jpg

US Dollar index reached its highest level in 3 weeks after the strong US retail sales data were released on Friday. US retail sales rose by 1.3% versus a 0.3% decline expected, indicating the consumer spending could boost the economy after the early-2016 slowdown. As a result, speculation that the Fed could deliver another rate hike later in year returned to the market. The next FOMC meeting will take place on June 15.

As for the new week, traders should focus on two key releases. On Friday we’ll watch the US CPI figures. Price growth is expected to have accelerated to 0.4% in April. However, economists at Credit Agricole see a risk of a softer print. April FOMC minutes will draw market attention on Wednesday. However, the June rate hike is currently priced out and the market is unlikely to change its mind ahead of the Brexit referendum. Also watch the Philly Fed manufacturing index and unemployment claims on Thursday.

We believe that a stronger dataflow could support the greenback, but it clearly won’t be as strong as it was before: the market is much more hesitant about the Fed these days. Continuous USD rally ahead of the June meeting is very unlikely.

Forex trading plan for May 24

US dollar traded sideways on Monday under the impact of comments from the Federal Reserve’s members. St. Louis Fed President Bullard suggested the economy is growing below trend around 2% while he sees the economy decoupling from risks overseas. San Francisco Fed President Williams said 2-3 rate hikes this year and 3-4 hikes in 2017 seems ‘right’. He also showed concerns that inflation expectations could be losing momentum.

EUR/USD is hovering around 1.1200. The euro zone’s May PMI turned out to be mixed, though the region’s manufacturing index missed the forecast making the composite index hit 16-months low. The euro met resistance at 1.1240 and looks vulnerable for decline to 1.1156/40, next support will be at 1.1100 (200-day MA). Further resistance is at 1.1300. Watch the release of German ZEW economic sentiment indicator at 09:00 GMT. In addition, the European finance ministers will meet to decide whether to grant Greece the next piece of bailout.

GBP/USD continued to decline after it reversed last week from the 1.4560 area. Support is in the 108.60 zone. The UK will release public sector net borrowing data at 08:30 GMT. The pound is still affected by Brexit concerns. The Bank of England’s Governor Mark Carney will testify on inflation and the economic outlook before Parliament's Treasury Committee at 09:00 GMT.

USD/JPY found some support at 109.50, though the picture on the daily chart still looks rather negative. Last week the pair failed to fix above the 55-day MA. To gain power the bulls need to overcome resistance at 110.50. Support is at 108.60.

AUD/USD was once again testing levels below 0.7200. Reserve Bank of Australia’s Governor Stevens will speak at 03:05 GMT. After the RBA surprisingly cut the benchmark interest rate this month and reduced inflation forecasts, the words of Stevens will draw much attention. Aussie is supported by 61.8% Fibonacci retracement of this year’s advance. Below 0.7175 (May 19 low) the next target will be at 0.7065. Resistance is at 0.7260 and 0.7330.

NZD/USD: flat is between 2 even levels

Price is trading in a clear corridor between the levels 2/8 (0.6714) and 4/8 (0.6836). The breakdown of the above levels were not, therefore, the likelihood of continuation of the flat in the same boundaries is high. Nevertheless, the existence of formal bearish trend suggests a possible decrease to the level 1/8 (0.6653). Fot that the paar must go below the level of 2/8 at least one third of the level widths. At the moment basically the same scenario is to increase at least to the level of 3/8 (0.6775).

Trade recommendations:

Buy – 0.6720; sl – 0.6670; tp – 0.6780.
