Quirky Tattoos That Shouldn't Have Got Past The Planning Phase

Glasses that Never Leave the Face

Nowadays it seems that Nerds are the new Cool Kids. Once the domain of the much-maligned "four eyes," glasses are now a stylish fashion statement. They come in all shapes and sizes, from old-school wireless to modern rimless or, well, thick black lines tattooed around the face.

While we applaud nerds getting recognition, we hope this new fad doesn't catch on because it seems like one of those decisions you immediately regret. We suggest sticking to real glasses, things you can take on and off as you please.

dinosaur doodles

Some modern art is incomprehensible to people, and a common criticism is "my preschooler could have drawn that." The same accusation could be made to the next tattoo.

There are several interpretations about it. The first is that a son or daughter drew it in art class and the father commemorated it. The second is that the father let the son or daughter act as a tattoo artist. The third (and perhaps creepiest) is that the guy has no children, the tattoo artist was an adult, and the scribbled dinosaur was a conscious choice.

Why is Grammar Important?

Although English grammar is not the most exciting subject in high school, it definitely deserves your attention. Not only can it help you get a good job as a writer (and any other kind), but it can also help you avoid getting grammatically incorrect tattoos.

It seems like the tattoo artist or person with the tattoo needs to take some extra lessons because "it's going to get better" isn't enough. Unfortunately, there is no eraser or delete button that can easily fix this grammatical error.

The Human Reptile

The following tattoo has to be one of the weirdest we've seen so far. More than a misspelled word or a poorly designed portrait, there is no easy explanation. It appears to be the exact design this person wanted.

The only question is: why? He makes us shrug our shoulders and scratch our heads. Perhaps this person knows that deep down he is a reptile. We can appreciate it even if the combination of red and orange is not the best color choice.

Text Message Tattoo

It's no secret that many of us are deeply attached to our phones. It is almost as if they formed one more member. When they vibrate for an incoming text message, it can feel like our whole body is shaking with excitement (depending on age).

That seems to be the idea behind the tattoo art above. While we think it's a good concept, we also think it should have been drawn in a sketchbook and shown to friends instead of being tattooed on a leg and shown to the (internet) world.

When the Symbol and Phrase Mismatch

Compared to some of the tattoo fails we've seen inked on skin above (we're looking at you "gets better"), this next one isn't too bad. It is rather an example of choosing the wrong symbol for the right words.

The phrase itself is moving, uplifting, and clearly meaningful to the person who decided to put it on their back. The infinity symbol, on the other hand, does not convince us. Does "love never fails" have to be eternal? Maybe a heart next time.

A "Fierce" Tiger

Tigers are terrifying. Well, let's put it another way: most tigers are terrifying. The tiger below, however, seems to have bumped into a giant tree one too many times and can't tell the difference between up and down.

Let's assume that "give me a tiger that looks like it's collided with a giant tree one too many times" is not the instructions this guy gave the tattoo artist. In any case, that's the tattoo that was left, and it doesn't scare anyone... Rather it should cause a lot of laughs.

A bit of nonsense poetry

The best poetry attempts to describe the indescribable depths of the human soul. The worst poetry is that written by the pretentious and the contemptible who yearn to smoke cigarettes in nineteenth-century France.

In between is the glorious tradition of nonsense rhymes. Lewis Carrol's Jabberwocky is a classic example. Another (not so classic) example can be seen on Dave's back. It's a little sweet, a little silly, and a little microwaveable. It's also something that should have been left in a journal instead of being tattooed on the skin.

Why is it Important to Check Spelling?

Not only grammar is important, but also spelling. If a word is misspelled, the whole sentence will have a different meaning, or no meaning at all. If you need a concrete example of this, take a look at the following tattoo.

Although "belief" can realize certain possibilities, we cannot say the same about "life" because we do not know what it means. Is it the life of bees? Jokes aside, we think we've figured it out: a "belife" is a tattoo artist who forgets to correct the spelling.
