Draghi criticism is dangerous and excessive

The constantly growing personal criticism of Mario Draghi, the European Central Bank governor appears to be excessive and therefore dangerous. That’s what Francois Villeroy de Galhau, the ECB governing council member told in an interview in the Spanish newspaper El Pais, published on Wednesday.

Of course, it’s quite normal that there’s debate on monetary policy. However, the personal criticism of Mario Draghi is too much, it’s really dangerous. That was Galhau’s reply to the question regarding German complaints against the European Central Bank.

Francois Villeroy de Galhau states that from his point of view it’s quite excessive to talk about politicization of the ECB, which is under the control of this particular country or it has been the major reason for the growth of a particular party in Germany.

Apart from that, he warned of the high risks closely connected with Britain escaping from the European Union, pointing out to probable financial turbulence, especially for British financial institutions, to say nothing of tough consequences for the monetary union.

AUD/JPY reversed from support level 78.50
Next buy target - 80.60

AUD/JPY recently reversed up from the support level 78.50 (which is the upper boundary of the strong support zone lying between the support levels 78.50 and 77.60). The upward reversal from the support level 78.50 created the daily Japanese candlesticks reversal pattern Hammer – marking the end of the previous intermediate ABC correction (2) from the start of May.

AUD/JPY is likely to rise further in the active impulse wave (3) (which belongs to the primary impulse wave ③ from the start of this month) toward the next buy target at the resistance level 80.60 (top of the previous intermediate impulse wave (1)).

Next buy target - 2110.00
S&P 500 recently rose sharply – following the earlier breakout of the resistance trendline of the daily down channel from April (which has enclosed the previous primary ABC correction ②). The active impulse wave ③ started earlier – when the index reversed up from the support zone lying between the support level 2020.00, lower daily Bollinger Band, 38.2% Fibonacci correction of the previous upward impulse from February and the support trendline of the aforementioned down channel.

S&P 500 is likely to rise further to the next buy target at the resistance level 2110.00 (top of the previous primary impulse wave ①).

GBP/USD: bears are trying to turn the tide of battle after the "Double Top"

27-5-2016-GBP-H4.png

The pair has faced a resistance at 1.4738, so we’ve got a “Double Top” pattern, which has been confirmed. Therefore, the market is likely going to decline towards the nearest support at 1.4576. Nevertheless, bulls are still all around, so if we see a pullback from the support, a new upward movement becomes possible in the direction of the last high.

We’ve got a local “Flag” on the one-hour chart, so bears are likely going to get a support somewhere between the 89 Moving Average and the level at 1.4585. If sellers be stopped here, there’ll be an opportunity to see bulls’ attempts to return into the market.

USD/JPY: "Engulfing Bearish" points to a possible correction

The price has been rising dramatically fast since a “Harami” arrived on the 34 Moving Average. Finally, a “Gravestone Doji” was formed at the local high, which points to a possible local correction. So, the market is likely going to reach the nearest support line, which can help bulls to deliver a new high afterwards. As we can see on the Daily chart, there’s a support by the 13 Moving Average. So, the price is probably going to rise until any bearish pattern arrives.

Kiwi and Aussie climb up on upbeat data

On Tuesday, the New Zealand and Australian dollars edged up against their major American counterpart, driven by the issue of positive data from both New Zealand and Australia, though hopes for an American rate lift this summer kept backing up the evergreen buck.

The currency pair AUD/USD gained 0.86%, being worth 0.7244, the highest value since May 23.

On Tuesday, the Australian Bureau of Statistics informed that building approvals soared by 3.0% in April, thus ruining hopes for a 3.0% dive. In March, building approvals went up by 2.9%.

A separate post unveiled that Australian current account deficit managed to narrow to A$20.8 billion in the first quarter right from A$22.6 billion in the previous year’s fourth quarter.

Financial experts had expected the current account deficit to narrow to approximately A$19.5 billion in the last quarter.

As for the currency pair NZD/USD, it ascended 0.45%, trading at 0.6725.

Apart from that Tuesday’s data disclosed that in May, the ANZ business confidence index for New Zealand soared to 11.3 from a reading of 6.2 last month.

EUR/USD: "Morning Star" led to the upward correction

0106eurusdh4m.png

There’s a “Morning Star” at the local low, which led to the current upward correction. The 21 Moving Average is acting as a resistance. However, there’s nothing that can stop bulls on the way towards the 34 Moving Average. If we see any bearish patterns on this line, sellers will probably try to taste the lower “Window” once again. As we can see on the Daily chart, a “Low-Price Harami” hasn’t been confirmed, so the pair is free to test the 55 Moving Average again. If so, bears are going to return into the game.

We’ve got a “Tower”, a “Harami” and a “Doji” at the local low. The last candles are bullish and there isn’t any reversal pattern so far. Therefore, the current correction is likely going to move on until a bearish pattern arrives.

BoE's Carney speaks today: Possible effects on GBP/USD

After the ECB president Draghi's speech, BoE Governor's Mark Carney will speak today in Oxfordshire at 13:00 GMT, where is expected to produce more volatility in GBP pairs, that also has been showing weakness in recent days. If someone is expecting that Carney will mention the Brexit, it should be taken in mind that the Governor has been criticized for his more recent speech, because that's showing partiality from Bank of England in terms of Brexit referendum. With that being said, Carney could have more caution when he does another mention of Referendum's efect for British economy, at least not with “direct” words.

That doesn't void the fact that the speech could have high impact in GBP pairs, as the uncertainty remains among investors, which also are very cautious with the UK economy's comments from officials before the Referendum. In a technical outlook, the daily chart of GBP/USD is showing a pullback from the 1.4689 level, where is located the 100.0% Fibonacci extension connecting the levels of 1.3851 (low), 1.4514 (high) and 1.4004 (low). A dovish speech from Carney will push lower the Cable towards the bearish trend line projected from the 1.3851 level, while a hawkish scenario will put the pair in focus to re-test the 100.0% extension mentioned above.

The difficulty to predict

The pair was approached to the resistance at the level 4/8 (0.6836). Crossing STD1 with STH4 took place, which reduces the chances of bulls further growth above 4/8. But the probability of rollback to the area of STD1 is still there, given that color of STD1 was not changed. In general, the situation at the moment is ambiguous, as there are conflicting signals. Give preference to a scenario is difficult, so to stay out of the market better.
