AUD/USD: outlook for July 25-31

Australian dollar declined on the expectations that the Reserve bank of Australia will cut interest rate at the next meeting in August. The minutes of the RBA’s July meeting showed that the central bank thinks that the nation’s economic growth may have declined in Q2, while inflation remains weak.

The most important piece of information ahead of the RBA meeting will be the release of Australian Q2 inflation figures on Wednesday: the data will either strengthen the case for lower rates or make the market reprice the odds of a rate cut.

AUD/USD is trading just above 0.7450 – this is a support line connecting May and June lows. Below this point support is at 0.7400 and 0.7350. Resistance is at 0.7500 and 0.7550.

European stocks show mixed performance

On Tuesday, European shares demonstrated mixed performance as market participants were still cautious ahead of this week’s policy gatherings by the ECB and BOJ.

The EURO STOXX 50 managed to gain 0.07%, French CAC 40 sank 0.21%, while Germans DAX 30 earned up to 0.06%.

Positive American data issued that week kept backing hopes for a rate lift by the US major bank in the nearer future.

While the vast majority of market participants expect the Fed to leave its monetary policy intact this week, it could provide hints on the timing of future rate lifts.

Apart from that, market participants were also looking ahead to Friday’s policy statement by the Bank of Japan, amid surging hopes for the announcement of extra stimulus measures.

Financial shares were mostly lower, as French lenders Societe Generale along with BNP Paribas headed south 0.73% and 0.66%, respectively, while German Deutsche Bank as well as Commerzbank went down 2.65% and 3.92%.

As for peripheral lenders, Italian Intesa Sanpaolo as well as Unicredit dipped 0.65% and 0.96% respectively. Meanwhile, Spanish banks Banco Santander along with BBVA dropped 0.21% and 0.39% respectively.

EUR/USD & Fed interest rate decision: Be aware of the bearish trendline channel

Today at 18:00 GMT we'll know the Fed's interest rate decision after the two-day meeting, where the analysts are expecting a hawkish tone on monetary policy's statement. However, we cannot see strong action on US Dollar, which also has been rallying since several days ago, and the markets are waiting for further actions following Brexit's outcome, but that could be delayed, as the BoE didn't take major actions on their latest monetary policy meeting.

The technical scenario for EUR/USD at H4 chart is very interesting, ahead of FOMC meeting. There is a bearish trend line channel formation and the pair is following it. The support level of 1.0957 remains there and a very hawkish statement by Fed could trigger bullish's actions on US dollar and with that being said, EUR/USD can break lower to test the 1.0850 level. By the other hand, if the pair achieves in break the upside bearish trend line (dovish's statement), then it can reach the 1.1107 level.

EUR/USD reversed from support area

EUR/USD rising inside minor correction (ii)
Next buy target – 1.1150

EUR/USD recently reversed up sharply from the support area located between the strong support level 1.0950 (which also previously reversed the earlier minor impulse wave (i) in June), the lower daily Bollinger Band and the 61.8% Fibonacci correction of the previous sharp intermediate ABC correction (2) from last December, as can be seen below. The upward reversal from this support area accelerated the active minor correction (ii) from June.

EUR/USD is likely to rise further to the next buy target at the resistance level 1.1150 (which reversed the pair with the daily Japanese candlesticks reversal pattern Shooting Star in June).

USD/CHF under bearish pressure

USD/CHF under bearish pressure
Next sell target – 0.9700

USD/CHF recently reversed down sharply from the resistance zone lying between the resistance levels 0.9950 and 0.9900 (this resistance zone has been reversing the price from the end of May). This resistance zone was further strengthened by the upper daily Bollinger Band. The downward reversal from this resistance area created the daily Bearish Engulfing (encircled below) – which marked the start of the active minor correction (ii).

USD/CHF will, most likely, continue to fall toward the next sell target at the strong support level 0.9700 (which reversed the previous minor corrective wave 2 at the start of July, as can be seen below).

GBP/USD: consolidation going to move on

1-8-2016-GBP-H4.png

We’ve got a consolidation between the nearest resistance at 1.3289 and support at 1.3116. So, the market is likely going to reach the 89 Moving Average in the short term. If a pullback from this line happens afterwards, the pair will probably try to have a support at 1.3116 once again.

GBP/USD: consolidation going to move on

The price is moving up and down. It’s likely that we’re going to see a local decline towards the Moving Average lines. At the same time, bulls will probably try to deliver a new high afterwards.
