The median estimate in a Market News International survey of economists expects US payrolls to rise by 100,000 in December, compared to the rise of 132,000 seen in November. Estimates range from an additional 45,000 to 135,000. The US jobless rate is expected to be unchanged at 4.5 pct.


However, December ADP data released Wednesday showed private payrolls fell 40,000 versus consensus estimates of a rise of 120,000, and now fears of a weaker-than-expected payroll report has financial markets on tenterhooks, dealers said.

The non-farm payrolls figure is expected to be 100k increase for the month of december, but the market is starting to factor in a much worse number. One of the major investment houses ratcheted their figure down almost 50% just this week based on the ADP figure. There seems to be an interior figure of 75-85k that the market is focusing on. 50k would then be the surprise to the downside and 110k to the topside
