New ride Valravn hits 75mph [121 kilometer/hour]

Cedar Point, in Sandusky, Ohio, is home to the new roller coaster that opened to the public on Saturday, the same day the park opened for the season. Valravn gives riders a sweeping view of Lake Erie before dropping them over 200 feet on a 90-degree free fall that hits a top speed of 75 mph. It also turns riders upside down 3 times

The Valravn section of Cedar Point's website says: 'Your flight on Valravn begins when you board 24-passenger floorless trains and climb 223 feet into the Cedar Point skyline at a 47-degree angle. 'Then, you'll face your fear of straight-down freefall as the train is temporarily stopped and held into position on the very edge of the 214-foot-long vertical drop.'

Vice president and general manager of Cedar Point Jason McClure told WOOD: 'The really big difference is right before the drop you hang for four seconds and it can be the longest four seconds of your life.'

The ride was designed by Bolliger & Mabillard, which is based in Switzerland

The Yukon Striker rollercoaster will open at Canada's Wonderland on May 3, 2019, with speeds of 80mph, 3,625 feet of track and 245-foot, 90 degree drop
The ride, designed by the firm Bolliger & Mabillard, began construction in January 2018 and completed its last stretch of track this month

The Yukon Striker begins with a slow climb to the top of the first drop which is 223 feet tall

After hanging above the 90-degree drop for three seconds, the coaster will take you down 245 feet, more than the height of the coaster itself as you drop beneath the surface of the pond
