Bigamy charge for grandma

KUALA TERENGGANU: A grandmother accused of bigamy claimed she fell in love with her “second” husband after he rubbed a love potion on her hands when they met three years ago, prompting her to marry him.
Siti Fatimah Yacob, 47, a mother of seven, said this in a letter handed to reporters outside the Syariah High Court yesterday.
Earlier, she told the court that she married Wan Yusof Sulong from Kampung Sekati Manir in 2005 after her first husband died.
However, she came to think that her marriage, solemnised in Thailand, was not legal as the person who gave her away in marriage was not a certified wali or guardian.
So, in March this year, she married Muhamad Abdullah @ Mihander Singh, causing an angry Wan Yusof to lodge a police report stating that they were still married as their divorce was not finalised.
Judge Sheikh Ahmad Sheikh Ismail expressed shock that Siti Fatimah had used an uncertified wali to endorse her second marriage when there were certified ones,
“Why didn’t you get confirmation earlier when you felt your marriage had not been properly solemnised,” he asked.
Siti Fatimah was in court to determine her marital status. Muhamad Abdullah accompanied her to the courthouse.
The judge fixed Sept 18 and 19 for the final hearing and judgment on the case.
The grandmother of four declined to take questions from reporters later on the advice of her counsel Anuwar Mohamed as her court case was on-going
