FOREX: Analysis and forecast of XAUUSD
1. Current trend of XAUUSD
Yesterday, value of contracts for gold fell by more than 2% against local highs of $1626.50 per ounce. After reaching the lows of the week of 1590.00, the price of “yellow metal” started intraday correction. The decline was caused by a new surge of rumors about development of European crisis. The most problematic countries are still Greece and Spain. The US positive macro-economic statistics also puts additional pressure on the price of the precious metal, as due to the positive news, chances of launching the third round of quantitative easing policy by the US Federal Reserve have reduced significantly. Later, the price rolled back to the level of 1606.00.
2. Important levels (Support and Resistance)
Important resistance levels today will be: 1614.10, 1618.50 and 1614.10. Support levels are as follows: отметки 1614.10, 1618.50 and 1614.10.
3. Best entry/exit points
Best entry points for contracts on purchase will be the level of 1614.50. Contracts on sale are recommended after breaking down of the level of 1601.00.
4. Supporting facts
Analysts believe that gold will preserve attractiveness for investors due to uncertainty in the world economy. Gold will remain an instrument of hedging against inflation, as monetary authorities of different countries will use this precious metal as a tool to relieve effects of the monetary policy.
GBPUSD: British currency is under pressure; traders anticipate sharp decline in the pair
1. Current trend of GBPUSD
Since the beginning of August the pair GBPUSD has been moving upward and gained about 200 points for two weeks. The price is growing, amid optimistic estimates of the prospects of the British economy, made by the Bank of England, and favourable data on unemployment rate in July, which suddenly was above expectations. All these facts helped the price to consolidate near the key resistance level of 1.5685. However, these positive prospects are illusive since British economy is still in deep recession. Unemployment rate in the country has reached the highest level over the last few years; situation in Eurozone is also a negative impact on the British economy. These facts show that prospects of the pair GBPUSD are not very positive. All preconditions indicate that the rise in the pair will shift into the sharp fall.
2. Important levels (Support and Resistance)
Correction near the key resistance level of 1.5685 after ascending movement in the pair GBPUSD may end up with the sharp decline. If the price breaks down of this level, with the help of support from positive news, and will go upward, it can reach the key resistance level of 1.5765 and after that we will witness sharp fall. If the price will be corrected near the key resistance level, after correction it can sharply go up. The target is the key support level of 1.5470; movement will be interrupted by corrections at the weaker levels.
3. Best entry/exit points
The most feasible scenario is slight correction and decline in the pair GBP/USD. The trend will depend on the fundamental news from the leaders of Eurozone and ECB and the Bank of England.
In this case it is advisable to set short positions with profit taking around the key support level of 1.5500. Pending orders for sale are recommended below the key level 1.5750 with the same level of profit taking.
4. Supporting facts
Currently Eurozone remains in deep recession and has the lowest indexes in history. Many respected economists predict collapse of the European Union in 2013 and exit of Greece before the end of this year.
Meanwhile, Greece was able to avoid default. On 20 August Athens has to pay more than 3 billion euro to ECB; however Greece did not have this amount of money in the budget. With the approval from ECB, country’s authorities decided to place 13-week treasury bills. As the result, securities for more than 4 billion have been sold, enabling to cover government’s current expenses. The main buyers of securities were Greek banks and therefore, final yield of bills of 4.43% does not reflect current realities.
MACD indicator is in the positive area, below the signal line and is directed downward, which is a clear signal for opening short positions.
