Elderly woman set on fire outside KL lottery shop

PETALING JAYA: A 62-year-old woman was set alight outside a lottery shop in Kuala Lumpur this morning after being doused with, what police believe to be petrol.
Sentul deputy police chief Jasni Zolpa said the woman, who worked as an attendant at the premises, was taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment, where she remains in critical but stable condition.

Jasni said the victim suffered burns to about 50% of her body.

Initial investigations found that the victim had no known enemies and had never received any threats before this. The motive for the incident is still under investigation,” he said in a statement, adding that the assailant has yet to be identified.

Jasni said the Kuala Lumpur police forensic team examined the scene and collected several DNA samples and other items to assist in the investigation. Sentul police have since launched a special operation to track down and arrest the suspect, he said.

Jasni urged those with information to contact investigating officer Amri Firdaus Jusoh at 010-9198209, the Sentul police operations room at 03-40482222, or the nearest police station.
