1. Opening of Account
1.1. I/We am/are required to make the application to open Al-Awfar Savings Account-i or/and Investment Account-i in person and I/We shall be bound by the Terms and Conditions Governing the Operation of Al-Awfar Savings Account-i and Investment Account-i in force from time to time.
1.2. I/We am/are required to furnish my/our specimen signature or right thumbprint, latest address and other personal particulars to the Bank.
2. Deposit Transaction
2.1. Al-Awfar Savings Account-i
A minimum initial deposit of RM100 is required to open the account. The minimum amount that may be deposited at any time shall be RM1. I/We shall maintain a minimum balance of RM100 in the account at all times.
2.2. Al-Awfar Investment-i Account
A minimum initial deposit of RM1,000 is required for 1 month tenure. For investment tenure of 3 months and above, the minimum initial deposit is RM500. A minimum deposit of RM1,000 is required to be maintained at all times for 1 month tenure and RM500 for 3 months tenure and above.
3. Withdrawal Transaction
3.1. Al-Awfar Savings Account-i
The withdrawal shall be made at Automated Teller Machines (ATM). Alternatively, I/We shall present a withdrawal slip duly completed and signed for making any withdrawal over the counter. If the balance in my / our account is RM100, I/We shall not withdraw a sum smaller than RM100 unless the account is to be closed.
3.2. Al-Awfar Investment Account-i
The withdrawal terms are stated at the back of the Investment-i Account Certificate
Pre-mature withdrawal
Any instances of pre-mature withdrawal before the completion of 1 month, I/We will not be entitled to earn the returns (if any).
3.3. The Bank shall not be responsible for any unauthorised entries in the account. I/We shall therefore carefully examine the entries in the account and notify the Bank if any unauthorised entries before leaving the Bank’s premises.
4. Authorisation
All cheques, banker’s cheques, bank’s drafts, Negotiable Islamic Debt Certificate, money orders, postal orders, warrants and other instruments deposited which have been dishonoured shall be returned by hand or by registered post to me/us at the address last registered with the Bank at my own risk and expenses.
5. Dormant Account and Unclaimed Monies
5.1. Al-Awfar Saving Account-i
I/We shall transact at least once a year. Bank shall consider my account as dormant if the account is not active for a period of 1 year from the last transaction date.
If the account is inactive for 7 years, balance from the account shall be deemed to be as Unclaimed Monies and shall be transferred to the Unclaimed Monies Registrar after such period under the Unclaimed Monies Act 1965
5.2. Al-Awfar Investment Account-i
Investment Account which has not been operated for 7 years will be transferred to the Unclaimed Monies Registrar under the Unclaimed Monies Act (UMA) 1965.
6. Declaration of Joint Account Holder
We hereby confirm and agree EITHER/ALL of us shall operate the account from time to time. EITHER/ALL signature(s) on any acknowledgement receipt or in any other document whatsoever given to the Bank is valid and effective as a discharge to the Bank in respect of all funds and matters relating to our Al-Awfar Savings Account-i and Investment Account-i. In the event of death of any one of us, the Bank is authorised to pay the survivor any balance remaining in credit of this Joint Account as a trustee to the deceased beneficiary.
7. Freezing and Closing of Account
7.1. In the event of death, insanity or bankruptcy and upon receiving actual notice, the Bank shall immediately freeze the account.
7.2. The bank reserves the right to close my/our account upon my/our request, by operation of law or at the discretion of the Bank.
8. Profit and Loss
Profit generated by the business are shared in accordance with the terms in the contract and losses (if any) are borne only by the depositor and the Bank will not be responsible to bear any losses except for misconduct and mismanagement by the Bank.
9. Prize Draw
The prize draw will be conducted every 3 months. However it is the Bank’s discretionary to review the frequency of the prize draw.
10. Eligibility for the Prize Draw
10.1. Only active account is entitled for the draw. If the accountholder is deceased, the account would still be entitled for the draw within 12 months from the date of decease.
10.2. Every RM100 investment shall be entitled for 1 unit of eligibility for the draw.
10.3. Each deposit must be retained for a period of not less than 30 days from the prize draw cut-off date in order for the customer to qualify for the prize draw.
11. Claim of Cash Prizes by Beneficiary of Deceased Account
Claim for the Cash Prizes can only be made by the beneficiary if the prize is received within 12 months from the deceased date. Any prizes received after 12 months from the deceased date, the prizes shall be revoked and the account shall be debited if the prize has been credited to the deceased account. The Beneficiary shall only be eligible to claim for the outstanding balance in the account.
12. I/We hereby confirm and declare that I/we are not:-
a. Permanent and / or contract employees of Bank Islam;
b. Immediate families of the Permanent and/or contract employees of Bank Islam; or
c. Representatives and/or agents (including advertising and promotion agents) of Bank Islam
13. Notification of Winners
Grand prize winner will be notified via mail and/or telephone call. Other than the above mode of announcement, the winners (including the Grand Prize) will be posted via Bank Islam website www.bankislam.com.my and/or selective major newspapers
14. Result of the Winners
The result of the winners is final. No appeal and correspondence will be entertained.
15. Advertising and Promotion
Bank Islam reserves the right to use the names and photographs of the winners and other information for advertising and promotion purpose.
16. Prizes
Cash prizes will be credited into the Al-Awfar Savings Account-i within 14 working days from the date of winner announcement.
For Al-Awfar Investment Account-i (which customers without Al-Awfar Savings Account-i), the Bank will open an Al-Awfar Savings Account-i for the purpose of cash prize crediting.
17. Zakat Payment
The Bank pays business Zakat on total nisab subject to zakat which includes customers’ savings that have become capital for the bank’s business activities. As such, customers do not need to pay Zakat on their saving/investment.
