Has anyone ever forgotten about a trade they had open?

I recently had a moment where I completely forgot about an open trade. I had planned to keep an eye on it and didn’t set a stop loss, thinking I’d be able to manage it. But life got in the way, and I ended up forgetting all about it. Has anyone else experienced something similar? How did it go for you?

I’ve totally been there! That’s why setting stop losses is a lifesaver—helps protect you when you’re not keeping an eye on things. Hopefully it wasn’t too bad of a situation :))

When I was a newbie, I also did not set stop losses. But I did not forget about trades, I just hoped that they would soon enter the profitable zone. But having missed the trend reversal, this did not happen and my deposit was drained. Therefore, now I always trade with stop losses and do not overload the deposit with orders.

Oh, I’ve definitely been there! It’s super frustrating when life distracts you. I’ve learned to always set a stop loss, even if I plan to manage it manually. It helps avoid those “oops” moments. Maybe consider setting reminders or automating more parts of your trades to avoid that in the future!

You can also set alerts in the MT terminal for the levels at which you plan to make a decision. You'll receive notifications on your computer, phone, or email.

Bonuses are marketing first; I treat them as ‘demo-plus’ unless profits (not the bonus) are clearly withdrawable and the volume thresholds are realistic. hfm's demo bonus looks good though

Never think you can manage it without SL. This thinking is dangerous, especially for volatile pairs like Gold. The market does not wait for you to remember. Just set the limit and relax.

Trading with stop-loss orders is psychologically easier when you understand that if the trade is unsuccessful, you'll lose exactly what you were prepared to lose and no more when you set the stop-loss order. Therefore, such trading is more comfortable, completely controlled, and safe.

Yes, it happens to many traders, especially early on. In my case, forgetting an open trade turned into an expensive lesson. Since then, I always use stop losses and alerts. It taught me that discipline and risk management matter more than confidence or good intentions.

You can also use a trailing stop when a trade moves into profit by a certain number of pips. This way, your stop is constantly pulled into the breakeven zone as the price moves in your favor, and if the price reverses, the trade is closed.
