Palm futures close higher amid a thin trade
CRUDE palm oil futures prices on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended mostly higher yesterday amid a thin trade, dealers said. They said players were still cautious over high palm oil output although other vegetable markets like wheat and corns extended gains on the back of steady crude oil price.
"There were some profit taking today with focus still on high stocks," a dealer said. At close, the November 2009 contract fell RM17 to settle at RM2,160 per tonne but December 2009 perked up RM2 to RM2,172 per tonne.
January 2010 climbed RM19 to RM2,208 per tonne and February 2010 gained RM18 to RM2,217 per tonne. The yesterday's turnover was lower at 12,451 lots as against 17,017 lots on Thursday and open interests declined to 95,266 contracts from 97,300 contracts previously.
On the physical market, October South stood higher at RM2,200 per tonne from RM2,180 per tonne on Thursday.- Bernama
