Two Invoke staff, ex-employee nabbed for marijuana possession
Two employees and one former staffer of data research firm Invoke Malaysia were arrested last night at a condominium unit in Taman Mutiara, Sentul, for possession of 75g of marijuana.
Sentul police chief S Shanmugamoorthy Chinniah, who confirmed the arrests, said the three suspects, aged between 25 and 30, were nabbed at about 12.30am after a tip-off.
"All three suspects are currently detained at the Sentul Narcotics Crime Investigations Department and are under remand for six days until March 8 for further investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which upon conviction carries a penalty of minimum five years' imprisonment and whipping," he said in a statement.
Shanmugamoorthy noted that two of the suspects are currently employed as a graphic designer and marketing executive at Invoke, while the third suspect is a former colleague.
The firm is run by PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli.
Rafizi later said in a statement that he would leave it to Invoke's lawyers to obtain information from the police, adding that no employers can be held responsible for the activities their employees engage in outside office hours.
"Anything that occurs outside office hours is the personal business of our employees.
"If there is any breach of discipline that goes against the company's ethics – whether during or outside of office hours – it will go through the disciplinary process in accordance to labour law and company policy.
"I leave it to the authorities to handle the investigation and any further action, as they would in any other case," he said.
