Lagi:
You might have seen in Zero Dark Thirty how hard it was for the CIA to track Osama bin Laden to the Pakistani palace where he lived a good quiet life for nearly a decade. What you probably don't know is that bin Laden, in the critical years before Sept. 11, also lived a pretty comfortable life in the state of Missouri, albeit by proxy.
Below, you can review a bill for a "jihad phone" that bin Laden used from 1996-1998 to coordinate a grisly terrorist attack on two American embassies in Africa. The phone was revealed in a pre-911 trial known as US v. Usama bin Laden, but the address for the phone has never been disclosed until now. I can report that on a monthly basis the invoice for bin Laden's jihad phone was sent to a post office box in Kansas City, Mo. The address was:
ARC
P.O. Box 5193
Kansas City, Mo
ARC is the accronym for a nonprofit bin Laden established in London (see signature). Al Qaeda is famous for using Arabic numbers for symbolism, but this address, as well as the assigned number for the phone, have no apparent meaning, at least not ex ante. But since May 1, 2011, things have changed. Do you find it poetic that bin Laden was killed on May 1 and that the first attack on the World Trade Center occurred in 1993 -- hence, 5193, bin Laden's Kansas City
