Tourism Ministry prepares reconstruction plan for Sade Village

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism is preparing a reconstruction plan for Sade Village in West Nusa Tenggara following the fire disaster on August 22.

"We will hold meetings with the local government to restore and rebuild, along with community involvement," Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said in a statement on Friday.

She outlined that the recovery will focus on developing a comprehensive reconstruction master plan, oriented not only toward physical development but also strengthening the social, cultural, and economic resilience of the local community.

She held a coordination meeting with West Nusa Tenggara Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, Central Lombok District Head Lalu Pathul Bahri, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), the Lombok Tourism Polytechnic, and stakeholders in the tourism ecosystem, resulting in several steps for the long-term reconstruction plan for Sade Traditional Village.

The first step begins with the formation of a cross-sectoral working team involving central government ministries/agencies, local governments, partners, and indigenous communities.

The team will be responsible for collecting detailed data on affected communities and workers for targeted and effective aid distribution.

Furthermore, the government plans to open a one-stop donation account to facilitate the collection of village reconstruction funds. This step is also balanced with efforts to meet the supply of traditional building materials, a major challenge for indigenous communities in restoring their homes.

Widiyanti said the next step focuses on developing a reconstruction master plan, in collaboration with stakeholders and indigenous communities to maintain the character and authentic identity of Sade Village.

According to her, the master plan includes an integrated fire protection system, including communal fire extinguisher points designed to blend with the village’s aesthetics, emergency water reservoirs, and improved sanitation and waste management.

She emphasized that the traditional houses in Sade hold significant historical value and remain central to the community’s livelihoods. Therefore, the government and local authorities are committed to providing decent housing for the Sade indigenous community.

The minister called for a comprehensive recovery process that places the community at the center of efforts.

She also hoped the reconstruction master plan would serve as a model for other traditional villages, improving disaster risk mitigation and safety while preserving traditional values.
