Tourism Ministry assists recovery of Sade Traditional Village

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism conveyed readiness to assist efforts in restoring the Sade Traditional Village in Rembitan Village, Central Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara Province after a fire incident on August 22, 2026.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana on Thursday (August 27) visited the location and attended a coordination meeting with the local government to discuss the restoration of the traditional village.

"We will further discuss with the regional government about rebuilding and restoration by involving the community," she noted in a statement on Friday (August 28).

Temporary data from local authorities showed the fire in the Sade Traditional Village affected 189 heads of families and 320 tourism actors.

The fire was also recorded as causing damage to 75 traditional house buildings, 69 art shops, eight alang barns, one monitoring tower, four Berugak Sekenam, six Berugak Sakepat, one Bale Beleq, and several public facilities.

Widiyanti then outlined the need for a long-term plan involving relevant ministries and institutions, local governments, partners, and indigenous communities to restore Sade Traditional Village, including through reconstruction and fundraising efforts.

She also highlighted the importance of developing a master plan for reconstructing traditional villages in consultation with local communities to ensure that the efforts align with their needs.

The reconstruction of Sade Traditional Village is also considered necessary to incorporate an integrated fire protection system, including communal light fire extinguishers and reservoirs or emergency water storage facilities.

The rebuilding of the Sade Traditional Village is expected to become a reference for other traditional villages in improving safety and disaster mitigation efforts.

In the short term, Widiyanti said public kitchens, trauma recovery support, and emergency response training should be provided for fire-affected residents of Sade Traditional Village. Working capital, weaving equipment, and other economic support should also be provided to help residents recover.

The ministry also plans to support the construction of a temporary museum and a mosque in Sade Traditional Village.

According to the minister, the recovery of Sade Traditional Village is not only aimed at restoring its pre-fire condition but also at strengthening the resilience of its community.
