Ministry, regions accelerate national integrated schools

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is collaborating with 30 regional administrations to accelerate the development of National Integrated Schools (SNT) as part of efforts to improve equitable access to quality education.

The collaboration was marked by the signing of the regional grant agreements and land handover documents with 16 regional administrations in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday. These include Sambas District, Gayo Lues District, and Tasikmalaya District.

The ministry also signed the minutes of commitment to expedite land settlement and supporting documents with 14 other regional governments.

The ministry's Secretary General, Suharti, in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday, highlighted that the land grants for the school construction represent a long-term regional administration investment in the future of the younger generation, rather than a mere transfer of assets.

“Educational hubs will be built on the granted land not only to provide quality junior and senior high school education for SNT students, but also to enhance teacher competencies and improve the quality of surrounding schools,” she said.

Director General of Early Childhood, Primary, and Informal Education at the ministry Gogot Suharwoto said that SNT—which combines junior high school and senior high school will serve as a driver for improving educational quality in the regions.

“SNT will serve as a center for the development of both students and teachers, while acting as a catalyst to boost the quality of neighboring schools. Therefore, support from local government in providing land is foundational,” he said.

In 2026, the ministry is preparing the development of SNT across 37 districts and cities, with 17 locations scheduled to begin educational services in the 2026/2027 academic year.

The land acquisition is part of the government's broader target to establish 500 integrated schools in phases through 2029.

Following the signing, the ministry and regional governments will accelerate land preparation, ensure legal certainty over land ownership, process permits, and proceed with school construction under a multi-year contract scheme.
