KL118 key contractors to be known by Dec
BY ZAIDI ISHAM ISMAIL ANDNUR HANINI MOHD HANIF - 25 SEPTEMBER 2014 @ 12:35 AM

KUALA LUMPUR: Recipients of key contracts to build the country’s tallest building, the RM5 billion Warisan Merdeka Tower, will be known by December.

Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) said it is evaluating the contractors which have shown interest in the project.

“The main contractors will be announced in the last quarter of this year,” said PNB president

and group chief executive Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman at a press conference, here, yesterday.

The 118-storey building, coded KL118

Tower, will be the country’s new landmark.

At 610m, it will surpass the 452m Petronas Twin Towers.

Seacera Group Bhd is among the contractors eyeing the major contracts.

The company announced in June that it had teamed up with two Chinese firms and a Malaysian company to bid for the job.

The first contract for the tower went to Pintaras Jaya Bhd, which is undertaking RM74 million foundation works.

Finnish firm KONE Corp, meanwhile, had in June won a contract to supply 105 elevators and escalators.

The mandatory conditions that must be met by the contractors include having successfully completed contract works of at least RM5 billion per year in the last five years. Foreign

contractors are required to form a 60:40 joint venture with local companies.

Hamad Kama Piah said foundation and piling works for the Warisan Merdeka Tower have reached 35 per cent, and are expected to be completed by the third quarter of next year.
