Jakarta, Bandung reaffirm readiness to host 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta and Bandung regional authorities reaffirmed their readiness to host the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup, whose inaugural edition will be hosted by Indonesia next September to October.

"We are ready to be the host, in synergy with our partners from Jakarta," West Java Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman said after the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup coordination meeting with Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir in Jakarta on Monday.

The provincial authority has designated Si Jalak Harupat Stadium to host the matches, Suryatman said, as his side will prepare the stadium to align with FIFA standards.

West Java also prepared training centers at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Stadium, Arcamanik Stadium, and Sidolig Stadium, as well as two back-up venues at Padjadjaran University Stadium and the Institute of Home Affairs Governance (IPDN) complex.

Building on its successful hosting of the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup, West Java is confident it will successfully host the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup, he remarked.

Meanwhile, Jakarta's Youth and Sports Office Head Andri Yansyah stated that the Bung Karno Main Stadium has been prepared to host the matches.

Several locations have also been assigned as training centers for national teams in Jakarta, such as the Lapangan Banteng square, Soemantri Brodjonegoro sports center, and the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), he noted.

"We are also ready to serve players and officials, if they want to visit tourism centers in Jakarta, with our transportation facilities," Yansyah added.

Scheduled from September 23 to October 3, the FIFA ASEAN Cup will mark the first Southeast Asian tournament organized by FIFA for national teams. Regional sides have long competed in the ASEAN Championship, formerly known as the AFF Cup and Tiger Cup, since 1996.

The FIFA-sanctioned tournament will be split into Premier Division and Challenge Division, hosted by Indonesia and Hong Kong, respectively.

Teams with stronger regional records—Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines—are placed in the Premier Division alongside India and Pakistan. The Challenge Division will feature Hong Kong, Myanmar, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste.

The draw placed Indonesia in Group A of the Premier Division with Malaysia, India, and Singapore, while Thailand will face Vietnam, Pakistan, and the Philippines in Group B.

Meanwhile, cohost Hong Kong will meet Myanmar and Brunei Darussalam in Group A of the Challenge Division, with Group B comprising Cambodia, Laos, and Timor-Leste.
