Maxis Getting iPhone 4 In August

That’s August of 2010, this year, in case you’re wondering. In an interview with the Star, Maxis’ COO, Jean-Pascal Van Overbeke said this when asked by the reporter as part of an interview which talks about Maxis’ ambitions to be a content provider rather than just a communications services provider. The interview was published in today’s edition of the Star newspaper, in the In.Tech section (or is called TechCentral now?).
There you go then. No need to pay the extortionate amounts being demanded by the people who are bringing in unlocked UK units into Malaysia. Unless you still want to be amongst the first in Malaysia to use it, and want to flaunt it at your nearest Starbucks. But something tells me that the people who can afford the early units don’t hang out at Starbucks.
As for the iPad, Van Overbeke says that it is possible that Maxis will be distributing the 3G version, but that it is up to Apple. Ah, this is an interesting one, which means that negotiations are still underway, and this also means that Apple may sell it directly in the online Apple store, or through its network of resellers in Malaysia. It looks like the WiFi only model will be freely available, once Apple gets round to noticing Malaysia on the world geographic map again.
