I had stayed at The Settlement Hotel Melaka for 1 night. Overall, I love it to spend my precious time here and hopefully I can spend more time here next time. The Settlement Hotel Melaka seeks to capture and preserve Melaka's illustrious history, and to weave their guests through an evolution of cultures and hospitality. After two years of fervent restoration, the once tired-looking 1960’s 4-storey government building located at the fringe of the Portuguese Settlement along Jalan Ujong Pasir, World UNESCO Heritage City Melaka, has now come alive in the form of an intimate boutique hotel that showcases the unique intertwined cultures and the rich heritage of Melaka.

What I Loves

Location & Shuttle bus
Set in the residential and commercial Ujong Pasir district, this high-end hotel is 9 minutes' walk from the Strait of Malacca waterfront and 4 km from the Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum. So that’s mean the location is not nearby the attraction. Suitable for anyone who like to escape the busy environment of Malacca. The place is really quiet, peaceful and calm. Do not worry, there are shuttle provided to the main city area. Grab and Uber nowadays are really helpful and cheap.

Room
Standing proudly against a backdrop of unpretentious everyday-life Melaka, The Settlement Hotel boasts a 45-room residence block and 4 villas spread elegantly over a total built-up area of 35,000 square feet of garden and lawn. Much of the original building structure was retained to become “The Residences”, while 5 traditional Malay villas were constructed nearby, one of which has been converted into a lavish traditional spa facility with 3 therapy/ massage rooms offering numerous relaxing and rejuvenating spa experiences, with a swimming pool beside it for guests who wish to have a refreshing dip.

Surrounding
I love the surrounding of this hotel. It is simple yet elegant. Expect to be spoilt to the hilt the moment you step into The Settlement Hotel Melaka. Greeted by a 350-year-old prized Sultan Bed at the front porch on a carefully tiled floor with century old tiles hailing from a Palembang mosque in Sumatra, each piece carries with it its own unique story. I really like the garden concept, where usually they have BBQ dinner buffet. It is really chill environment.

Bicycle
Free bicycle for you to go around. This is the best way to explore Melaka. But be careful when you are on the road.

What I Do Not like

To go to the hotel by driving
If you are coming from the city, and you want to turn right to go to road which take you to the hotel parking, your car need to stop in the middle of the road waiting for the opposite lane clear from any cars. It is quiet hectic if the peak time. Usually, once I parked my car, preferable I will grab Uber/Grabs to go to place I want without driving.

What I Do Not like

Breakfast
It depends on the number of guest of that day, it might be ala-carte breakfast (you need to choose which meal you want when you check-in), or if the number of guests are big, the breakfast will be buffet spread. This means, when ala-carte been served, you will not get various foods. And buffet spread for breakfast is simple. But I do not really mind as I am not really breakfast person.

My recommendations to you

• If you want to experience the Malay culture, do not forget to stay at Traditional Malaysia Villa.
• Have you romantic dinner at the hotel rooftop restaurant.
• Have your BBQ dinner buffet at this hotel. Check out their promotion from time to time.
• Do not forget to try out their SPA. From what I heard, it is amazing.
