CARTRADE-ABT, the sole distributor for Germany's Abt Sportsline performance products for Volkswagen and Audi cars in Malaysia, has launched Abt tuning packages for two new Volkswagen models.

Cartrade-Abt, a subsidiary of the Cartrade Group, is offering the Abt package for Volkswagen Golf GTi Mk6 for RM47,000 and another worth RM45,000 to tune up and upgrade the Volkswagen Scirocco.

The packages include ECU (electronic control unit) upgrades, wheels, suspension systems, performance exhaust systems and aero kits.

However, Abt-tuned up car enthusiasts will have to wait a while as the new GTi Mk6 and Scirocco are only expected to be made available by distributor Volkswagen Group Malaysia Sdn Bhd (VGM) in October, the earliest.

"It is expected that some 100 units of GTi Mk6 will be brought in this year by VGM with the first delivery in December.

"There will be about 80-90 units of the Scirocco for the year with the first delivery expected in October," Cartrade-Abt director of sales Helmi Ilyas said at the launch yesterday.

The indicative price of the standard GTi Mk6 is from RM210,000 to RM230,000, while the standard Scirocco should sell from RM230,000 to RM260,000.

Based on this, Helmi said, the price of Abt VSR GTi Mk6 and Abt VSR Scirocco should be up by an extra RM47,000 and RM45,000 each respectively.

He noted that Cartrade-Abt's sister company VW Cars Sdn Bhd should get about half of the GTi Mk6 and Scirocco volume to be brought in by VGM.

Since its launch in May 2008, Cartrade-Abt has sold more than 150 Abt-tuned cars and Abt kits from its showroom in Bangsar.

It is also responsible for upgrading more than 30 per cent of the popular Volkswagen models such as the Golf GTi into Abt-tuned rockets.

"There is a market potential of 600 units of Golf GTi annually and some 250 units for the Scirocco," Helmi said.
