Semarang (ANTARA) - Central Java is set to have floating solar power plants (PLTS) at two locations: Kedungombgo in Sragen District and Gajahmungkur in Wonogiri District.
Director of Business Development and Commerce of PT PLN Indonesia Power, Julita Indah, stated in Semarang on Saturday that construction of the PLTS is included in the National Strategic Project (PSN).
Construction of the PLTS is targeted to begin in 2025, with a construction period of approximately 14 months, and each power plant is projected to generate 100 megawatts.
"The construction of the PLTS will not take long. We hope to start 'commercial operations' by late 2026 or early 2027," she remarked.
She expressed hope that the two PLTS would boost the economy, as they have the potential to absorb hundreds of workers.
Additionally, the floating PLTS in Gajahmungkur and Kedungombo will become unique attractions for both investors and tourists.
Meanwhile, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi supports the development of the floating PLTS, especially since the program promotes green industry growth.
"I will coordinate with the districts since it is included in the National Strategic Projects, so it must be implemented," he remarked.
Recently, Luthfi acknowledged meeting the European Union ambassador and representatives of 12 European Union countries in Surakarta, where they discussed green industry initiatives.
He noted that investors have repeatedly inquired about the availability of green energy if they decide to invest in Central Java.
"In principle, we support it. This must be realized because we are encouraging investment and the key question is always whether 'green power' is available," he stated.
