Real Madrid urge Liverpool, Chelsea to bid for Van der Vaart

Real Madrid are keen for Chelsea and Liverpool to bid for Rafael van der Vaart.

Marca says the Spanish giants will try to tempt Liverpool and Chelsea into a move for Van der Vaart before the summer market shuts.

Real Madrid are ready to hawk their cast-offs to English suitors after building a squad Jose Mourinho believes can compete for La Liga and the Champions League this summer.

Van der Vaart wants to stay and fight for his place - a decision welcomed by Mourinho - but Madrid general manager Jorge Valdano has other ideas.

Roy Hodgson is understood to be keen, but does not have a big budget to spend at Anfield, while links to Chelsea have gone cold and a return to Germany may be more likely for the former Hamburg player.

Neymar agent: Santos cannot compete financially with Chelsea

The agent of Neymar says there's no chance of Santos competing financially with Chelsea for the youngster.

The 18 year-old attacker is mulling over an offer from Chelsea this week.

And Wagner Ribeiro revealed: "The numbers that were offered by Santos cannot be compared with that of Chelsea."

Ribeiro praised Santos for their handling of Neymar: "Santos have shown a wonderful strategy for the career of Neymar. His image abroad, and working here in Brazil, has benefitted from the media training he has received.

"I've never seen anything like it. But those who will make the decision will be the family. Leaving he achieves economic independence, but staying, he plays for the club who has supported him."

Soccer-Brazil teenager Neymar snubs Chelsea to stay at Santos

Brazil's teenage talent Neymar has decided to stay at Santos despite a multi-million euro offer from Premier League champions Chelsea.

The 18-year-old forward said on Thursday he had renewed his contract with Santos for five years on a higher salary and with a 10 million euro ($12.84 million) increase in the value of his buy-out clause to 45 million euros.

"The final decision is always the player's. I spoke to my dad and my family and we decided to stay, I'm happy, it's what I want," Neymar, who emerged at Santos last season as 'the new Robinho', told a news conference.

The teenager was overlooked for the World Cup by former Brazil coach Dunga but made a promising debut in a 2-0 win over the United States in a friendly in New Jersey last week under his country's new manager Mano Menezes
