Lim first noticed discolouration in his urine in 2020. The symptoms came and went for two years and medical tests came back clear. In one instance in 2024, his urine turned deep red. A CT scan eventually revealed the Stage 4 urothelial cancer.

Lim, who co-founded the charity-driven local running crew The High Panters, kept going despite the diagnosis.

Together with his partner of 13 years, Sofie Chandra, he continued to participate in marathons around the world.
