Arsenal Target £39m Quartet, Wenger Desperate to Spend and Gunners Sign Midfield Maestro!

by Alan Smith's Forehead on January 6th, 2010

"Arsène Wenger is confident he will be able to sign the Bordeaux forward Marouane Chamakh, a long-term target, under the Bosman ruling in the summer and could rely upon Bendtner to lead the line in the absence of the injured Robin van Persie in the interim. Yet, having been impressed by such players as West Ham’s Carlton Cole, André-Pierre Gignac of Toulouse and the Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor, Wenger is prepared to enter the market this month if Bendtner’s injury appears likely to persist". (Guardian)

So there you have it Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in some attacking talent but of the four mentioned the one player I would really love to see at the Emirates, Gabriel Agbonlahor, is the most unlikely to come to fruition. I don’t see Arsenal considering a move for Carlton Cole simply because he doesn’t have the quality to represent a top four club and of the two French strikers named Wenger has distanced himself from a move for Gignac and Chamakh will probably stick it out with Bordeaux until the summer before taking the best deal on the table which may well be coming from us but I am still not convinced the Moroccan is as good as many would have you believe.

LONDON – Czech Republic midfielder Tomas Rosicky became the latest Arsenal player to commit his future to the Premier League club when he signed a new contract on Monday.
The club did not say how long the contract extension was as the 29-year-old, who returned to the Arsenal side in September after missing 20 months through injury, became the 15th player since May to sign a new deal at the Emirates Stadium.
“The last two seasons haven’t been easy for me because of injuries but I feel it speaks volumes about the club’s belief in me for this to be signed, and I truly believe I have a lot left to offer the club, my team-mates and all the supporters,” Rosicky told the club’s website.
“It’s felt like home since I arrived here four years ago and I believe we’re on the verge of achieving something special together.”
(Four Four Two)

I am glad we have handed Tomas a new deal as on his day Czech Republic international is a world beater and if he can steer clear of injury he has alot to offer to the club. The 29 year old’s Arsenal career has stuttered a great deal and its incredible to think that in three and a half years he has only managed 41 Premier League starts.

Although Arsène Wenger wants to move quickly in the transfer market, the Arsenal manager is no closer to bringing in a new face.

For some weeks, the Frenchman has openly talked about the need to buy a striker during January. Speculation was already rife before the turn of the year and has only increased now the window is open.

With two crucial Premier League games coming up in the next few days and clashes against his main title rivals at the end of the month, Wenger recognises he could do with making his purchases sooner rather than later. But, speaking on the eve of the Bolton game, there was little to report.

“Ideally because of the number of games you have in January, you want to act as quickly as possible,” he said. “But at the moment it is very quiet.

“You hear here and there a player is going, but there is always more talk in the media than movement and more speculation than acting.”

So there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth, Wenger wants to spend spend spend. We have shown enough this season thus far to prove we can challenge on a number of fronts and a little more up front and a bit more in the way of depth at the back is probably all we need this January.

Cole interest could strengthen

West Ham United, 16:00, January 6, 2010

Arsenal will decide later this week if they will bring in a new striker, with Carlton Cole believed to be on their list of targets.
Arsene Wenger has said there is a 50-50 chance that he will look to bring in reinforcements, but the Frenchman is waiting on news on the fitness of Nicklas Bendtner.

Bendtner will have medical checks this week and should he require groin surgery, the Gunners will look to bring in a new face, as Robin van Persie is expected to miss most of the remainder of the season.

Wenger said: "There is no way we can carry on with only one striker. The real test will be in the next two weeks with the projection on Bendtner.

"If he is out for two months, there is no way we can cope. We will need someone, absolutely. We look anyway and if we find a good bargain, we will still do it."

In Betfair you can either make a back bet (bet on who's going to win) or place a lay bet (bet against something happening). Betfair matches people on either side of the bet with the odds they agree. Simple. Use this £25 free bet and give it a try.

Arsenal linked with £4m giant African Striker!!

We have a new piece of Arsenal transfer gossip this evening from the Times.

They are saying that Arsene Wenger is considering a move for the 6ft 8 inch Ivory Coast striker Lacina Traoré, who is currently playing for CFR Cluj in Romania.

Traore is only 19 years old, but his size and strength has already gained him six goals from just twenty-one games for Cluj, and he is hotly tipped as a star of the future.

Many pundits have been calling him the new “Adebayor” but with his size he is closer to a Drogba style of striker, and if he progresses at this rate he may end up replacing the Chelsea hitman in the Ivory Coast national team.

The Cluj president, Iuliu Muresan , said today: “We had a first contact with Arsenal, but have not yet received any concrete offer.

“Four million Euros is close to the amount we require to release the player.

“Traore will leave when we receive an offer close to its value”

The player himself has also admitted that he is keen to move to the Emirates if the Arsenal interest becomes a firm offer. “It would be like a dream to play in a team like Arsenal,” he said. “but I do not want to think about that because there is nothing concrete yet and I do not want to raise my hopes too much”

If Wenger can get him now for just £4m it could be the bargain of the century!
