Arsenal Arsenal Transfer Rumors

Fergie to score a Shinner
MANCHESTER UNITED are close to finalising a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Japanese ace Shinji Kagawa for an initial £12million.

The Red Devils were left disappointed on Monday night as top target Eden Hazard revealed he had chosen to join Chelsea this summer.

But boss Alex Ferguson is likely to get some consolation by snapping up Kagawa, 23. He made a personal check on the player as he starred in the German Cup final win over Bayern Munich.

The winger revealed he had spoken with the Old Trafford chief, while Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc said talks were ongoing on a deal that could be worth as much as £17.5m.

Ibrahim Afellay to spark scramble between Arsenal, Spurs and Toon

By Jamie Sanderson - 31st May, 2012

Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle have all been alerted to the availability of Barcelona playmaker Ibrahim Afellay, with the Catalan giants ready to accept offers in the region of £6 million.

Afellay, who is currently training with the Holland squad ahead of Euro 2012, joined Barcelona from Dutch side PSV in January 2011, but he has struggled for match time since, featuring just five times last season following complex knee surgery that ruled him out for seven months.

The long-running injury problems have been common place in Afellay's career so far, but sensing an opportunity for profit given their £2.3 million outlay 18 months ago, Barcelona have put the 26-year-old up for sale and believe his starting berth for Holland at the Euro's will be a perfect platform to boost his price.

The La Liga runners-up are desperately trying to raise extra cash to help fund a summer of spending, and offloading Afellay and his wages is a priority, with the Dutchman not lacking potential suitors.

North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham are both long-term admirers of the player, with Gunners skipper Robin van Persie enjoying a close personal relationship, while Spurs have twice failed with loan-to-buy offers in recent years.

However, Newcastle are now believed to be the front runners for Afellay, with the only question mark being whether the fleet-footed playmaker would want to move to the North East.

The Magpies have around £20 million to spend this summer, and could easily afford the £6 million asking price, plus healthy wages of around £80,000-a-week.

Afellay, who is also a long-term target for Liverpool, is contracted to Barcelona until 2015.

Arsenal transfer target Seydou Doumbia keen on Napoli move

Arsene Wenger is reported to be preparing a bid for the Ivory Coast striker after it emerged CSKA Moscow are willing to listen to offers worth less than the £26million buyout clause in his contract.

The 24-year-old could be available for as little as £15million plus add-ons, but the Gunners boss is not the only one ready to take advantage of the situation.

Napoli are also in the market for a new forward after accepting Ezequiel Lavezzi will leave for either Paris Saint-Germain or Anzhi Makhachkala this summer.

The Italian club have set their sights on Doumbia and his representative, Jean Bernard Beytrison, said that would be an attractive option for the player.

'I read that Napoli would like to sign a player with his characteristics, but I haven't yet spoken to any directors there,' Beytrison told Radio CRC.

'Doumbia knows the city is crazy about football and loves the way Napoli play.'

He added the Ivorian would have no trouble settling anywhere in Europe, having already played in Switzerland and Russia.

Doumbia has enjoyed a successful spell in Moscow since his move from Basel in 2010 and has scored 49 times in 73 appearances for CSKA.

Gunners Monitor Barca Youngster

Meanwhile, Arsenal are still keen on Barcelona striker Isaac Cuenca.

The 21-year-old was the subject of interest from Arsene Wenger during the winter transfer window but chose instead to renew his contract at the Nou Camp until 2015. However, Barcelona newspaper Sport claims Wenger has had Cuenca watched on a number of occasions and is still keen on making a move for the youngster. However, Cuenca underwent an operation this week on a troublesome knee and Arsenal will put their interest on hold until the operation is deemed a success.

The Catalan-born youngster made his debut for Barca’s B team in September after a successful loan spell at third-tier side Sabadell in 2010-11. He was fast-tracked into the first-team but was used mainly off the bench playing in a total of 30 games and scoring four goals.

Barca are likely to want 10million euro (£8million) for Cuenca.
