West Ham bid to land Sebastien Squillaci on loan

SAM ALLARDYCE has made a move to sign Arsenal misfit Sebastien Squillaci on loan.

But the plan has stalled because the Gunners are desperate to offload the French defender on a permanent deal.

West Ham need cover while centre-half Winston Reid recovers from a dislocated shoulder.

But FIFA rules mean a player can only be registered with two teams in a season and lending Squillaci would rule out flogging him in January — unless the Hammers bought him.

That is unlikely as Squillaci earns around £40,000 a week. Only a thigh injury stopped Arsenal selling the 31-year-old this summer.

Etienne Capoue is a target for Arsenal

ARSENAL are preparing a £10million bid for Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants the France Under-21 star after being priced out of his top target — £25m-rated Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila.

The 6ft 2ins Capoue, 23, can play as a defensive midfielder or in the back four and has scored three goals in 11 games this season.

He is currently out for a month after suffering a head injury in training.

Arsenal given £30m 'wunderkid' ultimatum
Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze could be on his way to Arsenal

Borussia Dortmund have told Arsenal that Mario Gotze is not for sale in January – unless they stump up £30million for him reports talkSPORT.

The 19-year-old playmaker has been heavily linked with a move away from the German giants, and after the club's elimination from the UEFA Champions League last night - fears are growing about Gotze's future.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the attacking midfielder, who is under contract at Dortmund until 2014, and may look to engineer a move to the Emirates Stadium in January.

But if Arsenal are serious about signing Gotze, then Wenger will be forced to go against his principles, and pay an extravagant transfer fee for the Germany international.

Dortmund are not keen on selling in the New Year, but a club source admitted: "Every player has a price, though, and for Gotze it is £30m."

The fact that Gotze was left angered by the club's 'disastrous' European exit may also help push through a deal, after Dortmund lost 3-2 to Marseille on Tuesday night.

"We are so ****** to be out of Europe," he said. "We should never lose matches the way we did against Marseille.

"We are to blame and I have to say sorry to the club and the fans."

Arsenal & Spurs' want €15m 'Raul-replacement' target
Cologne striker Lukas Podolski has attracted interest from Tottenham and Arsenal

Schalke are planning a summer bid for Cologne striker and reported Arsenal and Tottenham target Lukas Podolski, according to German newspaper Bild.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with the Rhein Energie Stadion exit door, after the German international questioned the club's European qualification credentials.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is a known admirer of Podolski, and is believed to be keen to bring him to White Hart Lane in a bid to strengthen his forward options.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has also been credited with an interest, as he looks to add a striker to his Emirates Stadium squad in January to ease the pressure on Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie.

However, both Tottenham and Arsenal will now face competition from Schalke, who are prepared to offer their Bundesliga rivals €15million for Podolski's signature - as they line up a replacement for veteran striker Raul.

Podolski's current contract is set to expire in June 2013 and he has already revealed that he plans to leave the club in the summer.

Whilst England is regarded as an attractive proposition for the talented striker, Podolski may in fact prefer to remain in his native Germany - meaning Schalke are the current front-runners to agree a deal.

Arsene Wenger is tracking highly talented 18 year old Basel and Switzerland midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri.

Arsene Wenger to make decision 'in the next seven days' over Arsenal loan return for Thierry Henry

The former Gunner has been training with the club following the end of the MLS season and the New York striker would be "ideal" in the short term, according to the French boss

Arsene Wenger is set to consider a move to secure Thierry Henry on a short term loan deal over the next seven days.

The New York Red Bulls striker has been training with Arsenal following the end of the MLS season in America.

And, while Wenger is yet to make an enquiry or discuss the possibility of a temporary return to north London with the former France international, the Gunners boss has admitted it could be an "ideal" solution for the club.

"That's why I have Christmas Day off - I have to think about that," Wenger told reporters.

"Short-term is ideal for us, but I haven't made any enquiry yet. Thierry is not here at the moment. It has never come up in conversation!

"The first of January is the vital date for us. We have seven days to make decisions and I will make a decision in the next seven days on players."

Arsenal are set to lose Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho at the start of 2012, as the pair are set to take part in the African Cup of Nations with Morocco and the Ivory Coast respectively.
