Grimandi reveals Arsenal striker plan

Former Arsenal player Gilles Grimandi has told French radio that the Gunners are not immediately interested in Nice striker Loic Remy but made clear that the young striker certainly has the potential to be one of Europe’s best.

Arsenal’s continental scout has been helping Arsene Wenger scour the French leagues for possible attacking recruits as the north London outfit weigh up whether to find a January replacement for the injured Robin van Persie.

Speaking to Europe 1, Grimandi revealed the attributes that Wenger was looking to bring to the Emirates:

“We know the potential of Remy. He has a physical standard that is outside the usual.

“He has one of the greatest potentials in France and perhaps even in Europe over the next five years. But we are looking for a player who will enhance our strength very quickly because we lack this.”

Remy has scored seven goals in Ligue 1 this term for Nice and has seen his value double since leaving Lyon 18 months ago for €8 million.

Capped nine times at under-21 level and once by France manager Raymond Domenech, Remy is being tipped as a possible outsider for the World Cup squad this summer. Should the player make the plane to South Africa it is certain that several of Europe’s top clubs will look to lure the 23-year-old from the south of France with Arsenal no doubt amongst the suitors.
