Arsenal Transfer Talk
Arsène Wenger is reportedly
under pressure from shareholders to spend in January, and injuries to Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie could force him into the transfer market.
The Frenchman could launch bids for West Ham's
Carlton Cole and France striker
Andre-Pierre Gignac.
However, Wenger
has ruled out a move for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh this transfer window but may still try and sign the 25 year-old Morocco striker when his contract expires in the summer. "Chamakh will stay in Bordeaux until the end of the season and then he will go where he wants to go because he will be completely free," Wenger said. "There is nothing concrete at all between us and Chamakh." Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton are all believed to be monitoring the situation.
Wenger has made a
£3.5million move for Brazilian teenager Wellington Silva, though the deal will not be completed until his 18th birthday in a year's time.
Reports in the Spain suggest
Real Madrid, who have vowed not to supplement their squad further this month, would make Cesc Fabregas their primary target in the summer. The Spanish side believe Arsenal would be willing to sell for
£40 million, though whether Fabregas, a Catalan, would be willing to move to Madrid is uncertain.
Wenger is also rumoured to be contemplating a move for
15-year-old QPR prodigy Raheem Sterling and could fight it out with rivals Tottenham for 21-year-old
Watford goalkeeper Scott Loach.
However, it appears that Bordeaux winger Marouane Chamakh, another of Wenger's January targets, will be staying put until the time being. The Moroccan striker wants to help his club retain the Ligue 1 title and will discuss his future in the summer.
