Arsenal Arsenal Transfer Rumors

Wenger - I don't expect January departures

Friday, January 01, 2010
By Nick Teale

Arsène Wenger does not expect any players to leave Arsenal on a permanent basis during the current transfer window.

The Frenchman says the only person likely to depart Emirates Stadium this month will be Jack Wilshere, who may make a loan move in order to gain first-team experience.

During his exclusive interview with Arsenal TV Online on New Year's Day, the manager was asked if he will sell anyone while the transfer window is open.

"No," he replied.

"As we said many times Jack Wilshere could go on loan somewhere but he will not leave us on a permanent basis."

'Chamakh will not leave Bordeaux in January'

By Chris Harris

Arsène Wenger does not expect Marouane Chamakh to be available in January.

The transfer window opened on Friday and Arsenal have been linked with any number of strikers since their manager admitted he was in the market to buy a replacement for long-term injury victim Robin Van Persie.

Bordeaux star Chamakh has been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium since the summer and Wenger admitted in September that Arsenal had been "close" to signing him after selling Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City.

Some expect Wenger to reignite his interest in the Moroccan international in the New Year but the Arsenal boss believes Chamakh is out of his reach.

“Chamakh is in the Champions League with Bordeaux and at the top of their league, so he will not move now," said Wenger.

"He has four months [of his contract] to go with Bordeaux and they have no interest in selling him."

Arsenal confirm that a new striker is coming

Arsene Wenger has made it categorically clear now that Arsenal will be bringing in a new striker before the transfer window closes.

It was expected that this would be the case but with recent comments from Wenger casting doubt that Arsenal would indeed be getting a new forward his comments yesterday have dispelled those doubts.

“Robin Van Persie and Bendtner contributed to many of the 51 goals we scored,” said Wenger

“They were both in outstanding form and we miss them.

“But on the other hand we have played 19 games and if you multiply 51 by two it is over 100 goals for the season.

“That is absolutely tremendous and people don’t realise how efficient we are going forward.

“I can understand that people are scared because we are short [up front].

“I don’t deny that, but I always hoped for a long time that Bendtner would be available at the beginning of January but that is not the case now. So we have to look somewhere.”

Now that Wenger has confirmed that Bendtner wont be back any time soon and that Arsenal must look elsewhere you can expect Arsenal to be linked with all sorts of strikers over the next 3-4 weeks.

Whats the odds that he finds another young unknown striker to set the Premiership alight?
