instagram black image problem - go to profile >setting > camera > untick "use high image processing". If you have this dieing urge to ask, search the group first... Repeated asking will earn you the steering lock award.

DO NOT reply.... OR just download an sms (3rd party sms sender/manager) application (if you are desperate, you can just flash in v14, best rom so far)

Instagram/Whatsapp/Camera or whatever cannot use - Security app (green colour) > Permission > Manage app permissions > find that app > enable trust this app

Getting started with your MI3

*please read the whole document, this way, less will laugh or troll you when you ask silly questions that has been answered a million times~~
**for those of you who are reading this and have not got your phone (on the way or not) yet, thankyou... helps everyone this way~~ less silly questions = more time to solve other problems, for u guys additional details have been added at the bottom, stuff about the shipping methods and phone 'versions' are available at the bottom of the doc, you may jump there but I highly recommend reading the whole document~~ have fun reading!!

DO's
To start phone, press and hold the single silver button till you see screen start up (if you stared at it and expect it to come on by itself, sell the mi3 and wait a few years till this feature becomes available)
Charging: Charge for first time is till it shows 100%. There is no need to charge 8 Hours, 18 Hours or 80 Hours.
remove that plastic piece stuck on your screen, its not a screen protector... when have you ever seen a screen protector with printed stuff on it~ otherwise the screen will go off when answering calls cause it is blocking the proximity sensor
be careful when removing the sim adapter, its quite difficult to remove and you must push the pin downwards at a 90 degree angle or you might damage the edge of the hole damage if not pressed in correctly. Pin is found behind the booklet in the box behind your phone. the hole and tray is at the top unless you are David Copperfield who can insert without removing the tray.
chose the right adapter for your sim.. there are 2 that come with the phone, its not a replacement piece, it has a different grove to hold different types of sims.
check if everything works (Pls restart after inserting the SIM)
please check the box to see if you have taken the usb cabel out yet~~ MANY people did not even realize that it was there, its in the box holding your phone. Xiaomi specially sent their cables for ninja training just to troll you~

DONT'S
(DO NOT) insert the sim into the phone without the tray (its a real thing, ppl have done it)
(DO NOT) insert the simtray into the phone without the sim card, it can get stuck (this is confirmed to be a real thing too) (be warned, its a RM 500 repair, not covered by warranty since its considered user negligence, at that point might as well get a new phone)
theres a sticker on your phone, am I right? you may remove it but DONT throw it away... keep it safely as it is required for warranty purposes (they may not actually care about the sticker, but just to be safe)

*Common problems/usual user mistakes

Note: Debugging rule #1 : Try RESTART/REBOOT/REFOOT or whatever you wanna call it and see if it works
no 3g - you bought a TD-SCDMA phone that’s it....
problems with notifications - 2 settings to look at, phone settings and app settings.. also give the app the required permissions. (some apps require you to keep them running for them to actively notify you do this by locking the app)
Facebook cannot download documents/files - (not a solution, justa workabout) set your default browser to chrome = settings-apps-default.... you should know the rest

battery draining - please turn off ur gps.... lower the brightness of the screen (huge power sucker there) and kill apps when not in use... for those of you who cannot seem to remember to close apps, greenify is there for you~~
cannot play whats app audio messages - double click the message
cannot play record audio messages (for an app)- give the app the required permission in the security app
Camera apps not working properly - (black screen/error message) give ur app the permission it needs in the security app
whats app contacts sync issues - '+60' prefix (remember to give it access: Setting >apps>whatapp>manage permission>access to contact list)
Messages (or call info) do not have the contacts name (only the number as if contact was not added) - same as the above, add the '+60' prefix, POOOOFFFFFFF, solved (please use apps like twitch or number fixer, do it manually and i laugh my head off)
touch screen 'hopping' or 'ghost efffect' - disable glove mode and that pocket dial setting, some have said that the tampered glass screen may cause sensitivity issues (not everyone faces this)
touch screen not responding while charging - unplug and plug in again, if not solved, change the adapter(current leak most probably) (poor contact at the usb head also causes this)
blank icons - just switch languages look for the icon to check if its gone (and reload) and presto, its fixed~~ switch back to ur preffered language
Google Now is not activated - switch to english before installing or updating Google Search.
custom ringtone not found - go to music player, settings, and untick filter
not enough memory - buy a OTG (on the go) memory stick... its cheap and decent
stuck in 'FASTBOOT' mode - (crap i forgot what to do... hold a combination of buttons down, theres only 3 hardware buttons so.... that’s like 4 ways to combine the 3 buttons, test it out yourself) (*edit* power button only..)
RAM around 2000-1Mb left - No worries. Is a norm. If phone runs out of memory, it will recycle from apps rarely used.Unused RAM is wasted RAM!
Moving Items from Phone to PC or PC to Phone - Plug in the usb cable then just open like pendrive. Copy paste or drag and drop using explorer (windows explorer, not internet explorer (some say, the original cable only works for them (at this point if you did not know that ur phone came with a cable, PLEASE READ THE WHOLE DOCUMENT, its for your own good, the rest of us will laugh less at you~~)
Micloud sms sync issues - use ie for the webpage (dont worry, this is the only time you have to launch ie)
USB Cable missing - Shake the phone box hard and follow the source of the sound (repeated cause I know you didnt read the top half)
Screenshot - Take your phone to the scanner/photostat machine, press scan/copy. get the copy and scream with joy! Happy? meh.. Then press Power button + Volume Down (Up in some sets) button together (2 secs) (Update 22 and above - you also have the option of holding the menu button + volume down button)
Themes cannot be uninstalled - in the page where you can click 'Apply' scroll down abit
Android.process.acore issue - off sync, delete contacts, (optional) save whatsapp/wechat folder, delete whatsapp/wechat, on sync, reinstall whatsapp/wechat
camera blur - subject too dark or ur hands are shaking, to improve pic quality, steady ur hands, focus on ur subject and when snapping, don't move! or use handheld twilight mode. If front cam, remove your "original" screen protector(the one with the xiaomi word and tells you which button is which. also could be caused by tempered glass)
cannot record audio with facebook then anything - update to latest kitkat rom (4.4.x)
ASPHALT8 cannot start - update to latest kitkat rom (set VISUAL SETIING to MEDIUM in ASPHALT 8 in-game setting for old rom.)
instagram black image problem - go to profile >setting > camera > untick "use high image processing"
Antutu 'low' score - (why lar u wan to show off, Antutu means NOTHING!) 1) restart phone... 2)put the phone aside in a cool enviroment... 3)set to high performance... 4)test again..
Call ringing delay - press dial phone > press menu (left bottom button)> setting> call setting > incoming call settings > disable mute unknown number
"R" on top near signal - It means your phone rosak la.. Give me your phone since rosak.. It also means roaming. If you're using umobile and in area without reception, it will hitchhike other line in contract with them. As long inside Msia no charges.
Phone heating up - All phones heat up la depending on usage. The more things you run the faster it heats up. Use it to cook your breakfast egg lo. If your heats up for no utter reason, then see if it's bearable. If still can hold means your phone having mild fever only. Apply kool fever to see if temperature drops. or get an aluminum case. If it's unbearable and batt drops real quick, send to service center check.
location services issue (v18 and above) - (u may not want to try cause, it will be screwed again after rebooting) delete the cache file for gps or an easy way = factory reset
why do diferent apps show diferent specs - no you did not get a clone apps like antutu shows correct data cause it reads from file, problem with this is that clone phones also change that file making it not reliable~~ technically speaking, i could change the specs in my phone to show a i7 processor, this means that antutu is a silly way to check specs. cpuz on the other hand reads actual data, e.g. clock speed, bus speeds, memory sizes and all that geeky stuff. it then compares it with what it has in its database.. its database is quite complete but mainly houses standard specs. Our mi3 has a overclocked proc (clocked to 801 specs) this is why, cpuz shows something else, its cause i thinks we have something else due to the cpu and gpu clock speeds~~
Gmail cannot download or open attachment (happen in ap set) - go into download app and disable xunlei dl engine.
*unsolved issues (requires solutions)
date formats do not change regardless of the format selected (current malaysian stable rom has been confirmed to have this issue rom v14) -> rom problem, wait for an update
MiPhoneManager(Xiaomi Mobile Assistant)'s internet connection sharing could fail anytime. looking for a better reverse tethering solution. Xiaomi came up with their USB wifi device which is plugged to computer connected to the internet. Have not gotten my hands on one yet. Will update when I test it out - Kellaw
(v18 rom issue) Phone lines (maxis) cuts off, switch to 2g

** other notes
if you suspect a hardware issue..... try dial: *#*#64663#*#* on your keypad, (before you ask, no you will not be charged nor will you have to go through a lengthy conversation with someone at the other end) its a hardware test... if it works here, it works.... its probably not a hardware issue

*If you can't find the File please follow the steps below:Open any file>Organize>Folder and search options>View>Hidden files and folders>Show hidden files, folders and drivers>Apply>OK.

Restart the program to see if it works. If not try restarting your PC. If it still doesn't work, restart your phone also.

***models and markets (additional deatails may be needed here)
china set - has china rom, right out of the box, has chinese words on the 'plastic piece' covering the screen (again, it is NOT a screen protector, read again 'NOT'.) comes in many variants, 16 to 64 gb storage, multiple colours, white, silver and black (gold supposedly otw). It also comes with different rom which offers many more themes, however, you must do stuff to it before you can use the playstore (google is your best friend again)
sg/my set - comes english words on that plastic piece, only 16gb and only in silver. The rom is also diferent but if you want, xiaomi allows you to flash in whatever rom you want (its very simple to do this and does not void ur warranty)
other markets will include Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Mexico (not launched in all yet)


*** ap set, wash set, official set & clone set
AP set - a set, brought in by a third party company. Warranty can be claimed at that company, however, warranty duration varies from company to company. the warranty conditions may be sketchy (e.g. they tell you '2years' but in the small print, 2 years only covers the receiver, mobo 1 year, screen 6 months(some 3))
washed set - brought in by a person. the word washed comes from 'washed up upon our shore' warranty may only be claimed at the country of origin (if it comes from china, u have to run back there to claim your warranty)
official set - brought in by the company itself. (warranty can be claimed at service stations (usually most reliable and best bet)
clone set - while the 3 above are still original sets and may have been produced in the same factory, the clone set is a 'clone'... it looks 99% the same and may seem to have the same specs. That is a LIE it has different specs and is only made to trick you into thinking that it has the same specs... you can use software to check it but this is not 100% reliable (clones can even trick antutu X now)(*cpu z may be able to detect the lies)...

check the holes (mic/noise cancellation mic)~~ the td model comes with holes in diferent locations (if im not wrong)

software examination
Cpu z will show a tegra processor
camera is able to snap RAW photos
Rom name will be dif (not MY)

physical examination
when flipped to the back, the camera's dual leds look different, the yellow spot in the middle looks larger
some clones have a slightly different looking MI logo (could be much older sets)
software examination
run cpu-z and antutu x... check the specs and scores.. (do your own research on the specs, and as for the scores, for dev rom, 26k+ (i believe) and for stable rom 35k+ ) (**some units can lie its way through this test)(watch out for the ninja mtk chipset and look closely at the details) **rom,ram,processorees,resolutions**)
try launch the recovery mode, only originals have this (i forgot how to do this, google is your best friend)

***ROM

there are 2 types of rom's available to us, the stable ROM and the dev ROM
Stable rom - its called stable for a reason, basically it is a stable release with the least bugs. Each region (e.g. china, malaysia, philiphine) have their own stable rom version and are slightly diferent (e.g. china's rom has a much harger theme store compared to the rest). You may install a stable rom from a different region but there are steps that must be taken to get them fully functional, you may look at the other docs for more info on that~~ (**as of right now, the malaysian stable rom is up to 4.3.x but the china/philiphine roms are slightly more up to date with the 4.4.x already released)
developer rom - its meant mostly for developers as it is the most up to date rom available for the phone with all the latest unreleased features and requires you to constantly update the phone. This rom is also usually plagued with bugs that will be solved with each iteration. (NOT a rom for basic users, too much of a hassle and too buggy)
NOTE: Rooting and Flashing ROM will not void your warranty(Confirmed in MIUI forums)(still at your on risk yadayada)
