Keane not available for loan

Robbie Keane firmly remains a Tottenham player and Harry Redknapp has confirmed any interested parties will be wasting their time in tabling loan bids for the Republic of Ireland international.

The striker has slipped down the Tottenham pecking order and has made it clear he wants to head for pastures new in a bid to secure regular playing time.

The likes of West Ham, Birmingham, Newcastle, Wolves and Aston Villa have been credited with an interest and it was reported on Friday that the Hammers were in pole. Redknapp, though, has played down talk of that transfer as he claims West Ham's proposal was for a loan deal.

"It was a loan situation," Redknapp said of the reported offer from Upton Park. "West Ham wanted a loan but he's not for loan. We wouldn't be loaning him out.

"He went out on loan last year so we won't be doing that again. If someone wants him they will have to buy him."

Redknapp expects United defeat

Harry Redknapp is confident Manchester United will not finish the Premier League season unbeaten, and hopes it is Tottenham that inflict their first defeat when the two sides meet on Sunday.

Redknapp's side will welcome United to White Hart Lane in the knowledge that their opponents have not been beaten in any of their 20 league games to date. It has been suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson's side could yet match Arsenal's famous 'Invincibles' of 2003/04 and go the whole campaign without tasting defeat, but Redknapp is confident the competitiveness of the title race will ensure that does not happen.

"Alex Ferguson knows his wines, but this won't be a vintage season for Manchester United on the pitch," Redknapp wrote in his column for The Sun. "As good as they are I do not think they are good enough to go through the whole season unbeaten.

"No one's invincible this season in my opinion. Results already have shown that. United have done well to get past the halfway mark without losing a single match - but it's just a matter of time before they do."

Spurs enter the clash eight points behind the league leaders, having played a game more, but Redknapp still believes they are firmly in the title race. After suffering defeat when the two sides met in October at Old Trafford - with Portuguese winger Nani taking advantage of a mix-up between goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes and referee Mark Clattenburg to score the decisive goal - the Englishman hopes it is his side that benefit from some good fortune this time.

"There are only four points separating the top three teams at present - and don't rule us out as there are still many games to go," Redknapp said. "I think we're due a bit of luck against Man Utd having endured some unlucky results in the past couple of years against them, particularly up at Old Trafford.

"What happened with Nani's controversial goal against us is forgotten now. It has to be as you have to move on quickly in football or you'll get overtaken."

Spurs have had David Beckham training with the first-team squad this week, and while Redknapp admitted the media circus that has surrounded the 35-year-old's presence had caught him by surprise, he has been impressed with the LA Galaxy midfielder's down-to-earth attitude.

"David has shown he is happiest when out on a football pitch," Redknapp said. "There's been no problems with him. He has settled in with the lads and worked well.

"Behind closed doors you get the impression that he'd be just as excited to be down the park having a kickabout with his mates as being one of the most famous sportsmen in the world, mixing with politicians and dignitaries and superstars."

But Redknapp will not be asking Beckham, who spent more than a decade with United, for tips on beating his former side.

"I wouldn't dream of asking him if he knows any secrets about his old club that could help us," he said. "It wouldn't be right. The club has a place in his heart so it's not fair to put anyone in that position."

Van der Vaart wants long Spurs stay

Rafael Van der Vaart has made a huge impression in his first season at Tottenham and the Dutchman is keen to extend his stay at White Hart Lane.

Spurs pulled off one of the transfer coups of last summer when wrapping up a deal for the forward from Real Madrid in the final minutes of the window.

The 27-year-old has taken to the Premier League in seamless fashion and is keen to forge a long career in London. His present deal has a further three-and-a-half years to run and he has his sights set on an extension.

"I love it here," Van der Vaart told The Sun. "I love the players and I love the down-to-earth attitude at the club. If I have the opportunity, I would stay here for the rest of my career."

Spurs face a test of their title credentials against Manchester United on Sunday and Van der Vaart feels Harry Redknapp's side can blow open the title race with a win.

"Tottenham-United is the biggest game of the Premier League this season," he said. "Not only for us at Spurs but for all the Premier League because United are unbeaten.

"If we beat them, it opens up the league for everyone else who is chasing the title. And that includes us - we've got the squad to win the league."

I don't try to be like Beckham - Bentley

David Bentley has flatly rejected claims that he attempts to be just like David Beckham, and he admitted he would not have picked himself had he been manager of Tottenham.

Bentley completed his loan move to Birmingham this week, having made only three appearances for Spurs this season. The England international is expected to go straight into the starting line-up for Birmingham's derby clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.

However, he arrives at St Andrew's carrying the tag of 'big-time Charlie', with comparisons made between Bentley and Beckham ever since Steve McLaren put the two in the same bracket on the eve of the former Blackburn man's England debut in 2007. Bentley insists both labels are unwarranted.

"I give you my word that I don't wake up in the morning with his poster on the wall and start worshipping it or look to see how he's done his hair today, so I can do mine the same," he said in The Guardian.

"There's probably a misconception of me. Sometimes people think I don't want to play but I love what I do. I love waking up in the morning, coming to work and sometimes it can get lost in translation that I toss things off. Sometimes you will see me bouncing behind cameras, throwing things over the manager. I just love enjoying myself, being around the lads.

"People sometimes get this perception that I'm a big-time Charlie. But that is not the case. I come from a working-class background, I have all the same people around me - my mum and dad. I haven't lost touch with where I've come from."

Bentley backs up those claims of realism by admitting Harry Redknapp was right not to pick him at White Hart Lane. However, he hopes Spurs can sort a deal for Beckham, for the good of the English Premier League.

"It will be great, won't it?" he said. "Like me, he's never had to rely on his pace, so it's his quality with the ball that will come through. It can only have a positive effect. It's great for the club. It gives it the worldwide appeal. Everyone will know about Tottenham, which will take them to a new level.

"The team were doing so well. It's very hard for a manager to put me in. How can you? I wouldn't have picked myself."

Spurs coach questions Beckham deal

Tottenham Hotspur coach Les Ferdinand fears the club's bid to sign David Beckham could unsettle the dressing room.

Spurs are trying to sign Beckham, 35, on loan from LA Galaxy but Ferdinand has hinted that the protracted transfer could be more trouble than it's worth.

"There is going to be a mixed reaction from the players," Ferdinand told the Daily Star. "Some of them will look and say, 'What is this guy actually going to bring to us?'

"But I wouldn't say it's a PR stunt. Harry does genuinely believe David can bring something extra to the club.

"And not just on the park, because the guy is such a professional, a real example to others. It will be interesting to see how he trains and conducts himself.

"There may be some unsure what a 35-year-old is going to give the team, but his professionalism is not in question."

Although Beckham is currently training with Spurs, manager Harry Redknapp revealed on Friday that the club have only just received permission for Beckham to take part.

"We have only just got permission, it has just been agreed, that he can train with us today," Redknapp said. "There has been a bit of issue over that, so he has been joining in doing little bits. But they have now said he can join in today and join in with everything we are doing in training.

"I have had no conversation with anyone at LA Galaxy, so at the moment I don't think there is any progress on him playing."

Negotiations to seal a loan deal are ongoing with LA Galaxy, who insist their star player return to the USA for the start of the MLS club's pre-season campaign on February 10.
