After months of hints , Dwayne "The Rock"
Johnson has finally revealed which DC Comics
character he will be playing.
And it's … Black Adam.
The wrestler-turned-actor tweeted the news
Wednesday morning.
Johnson previously confirmed he would play a
role in a Warner Bros. adaptation of the DC
Entertainment property Shazam, but it wasn't
clear then whether he'll be playing the title
character or his nemesis, Black Adam — an
earlier version of Shazam from Ancient Egypt
who has become an anti-hero in recent years.
Darren Lemke is set to write a script for the
Shazam movie, with Hiram Garcia attached in
a producer capacity, The Hollywood Reporter
has confirmed.
Johnson has said that Black Adam has always
been one of his favorite characters, adding
that he's always been a fan of anti-heroes.
Shazam has been portrayed in DC comics as
honorable and flawed by pride, making him
less of a traditional villain.
While no official Shazam project has been
announced by Warner Bros., the studio
recently unveiled nine mystery DC
Entertainment titles set to hit theaters between
2016 and 2020.
However, New Line Cinema
head Toby Emmerich and Warner Bros.
president of worldwide production Greg
Silverman both told The Wall Street Journal in
April that Shazam is one of the films the studio
has in development.
10:43 a.m. This story has been updated to add
that Darren Lemke and Hiram Garcia are also
attached to the Shazam movie and more details
from The Wall Street Journal about the project.
