Yeah, we have a million issues going on politically & economically in our country, but let me share with you my proud-to-b-a-Malaysian moment.
Yesterday at approximately 12:50pm, there was a fire at my parents' residence in Pines Condominium, Brickfields (the fire took place at another resident's unit on the 16th floor).
I need to bring to light the fantastic work done by our Jabatan Bomba who arrived quickly and got down to work in such an efficient manner. As the lift bomba was out of service, they all had to climb 16 floors with their gears.
Mind you, these gentlemen were fasting, and it was all in a day's work for them. They were polite, considerate, helpful, and very kind. Our abangs profusely refused help, and insisted that we go down to safety whilst they got it all under control.
My mum who is recovering from a back & knee operation was suffering from severe pain, and was carried to the car by our heroes from the Fire Department. I don't know how else to express my gratitude to these wonderful men, but all I can say on behalf of residents of Pines Condominium is, Abang-abang Penyelamat, you all have our utmost respect and you will all always have a special place in our hearts. Terima kasih!
I have to also mention:
Security guards braving the smoke to do the best they can;
Friends bringing water n 100 plus for all those stranded awaiting for the fire to be put out;
Fellow resident buying little kids milk packets;
Convenience store owner distributing bread and bun;
Monks from the Buddhist Maha Vihara quenching our thirst with several boxes of bottled water.
The best of humanity in such a distressing crisis was truly humbling
