MIRI: A 66-year-old man here died two days after allegedly injected with medication from an itinerant ‘sinsei’ (practitioner of Chinese traditional medicine).
The family of the man, who died last Saturday, is now seeking legal recourse and they hope the public would also be wary of unproven medication from unfamiliar ‘sinsei’.
The family from Marudi yesterday went to the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Miri branch Public complaints Bureau office to relate their ordeal.
According to a son of the deceased, who accompanied his mother and a 37-year-old brother to the office, they were introduced to the ‘sinsei’ by their uncle’s friends.
“My dad was a healthy man, eventhough he had diabetes and hypertension, but after being introduced by friends to this ‘sinsei’, who prescribed him with numerous liquids, his health deteorated,” said the 26-year-old.
The father was believed to have died because of the liquid substances injected into his body as recommended by the ‘sinsei’.
The son also disclosed that they had paid RM600 to the sinsei as medication cost.
“My dad started consuming the substance on Thursday and Friday, but he died the next day,” he said.
SUPP Miri Public Complaints Bureau chairman, Koh Ek Chong said three out of five liquid substances given to the deceased had been identified.
“Out of these five, we found sodium chlorates, glucose and antibiotic, while the other two are still unknown,” said Koh.
“We will assist the family to report this to the police and to the divisional medical office for further action.”
