Siloam expands oncology services through integrated care approach

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Siloam Hospitals Lippo Village is strengthening oncology services through integrated care involving multidisciplinary teams, advanced diagnostics and personalized treatment plans, the hospital said Tuesday.

A key initiative is its Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), bringing together medical, surgical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, nuclear medicine specialists and other healthcare professionals.

The MDT reviews clinical findings and develops treatment recommendations based on patients’ medical conditions, disease characteristics and treatment goals.

The hospital also offers second opinions to give patients greater clarity and confidence in treatment decisions.

The service reviews diagnoses, disease staging, pathology, imaging and treatment options, helping patients make informed decisions while accessing multidisciplinary expertise before starting or changing treatment.

Michael Flynn, M.D., Ph.D., a medical oncologist and associate professor at University College London Hospital, said oncology is advancing rapidly but requires collaboration across medical disciplines.

“Advances in oncology are happening at an unprecedented pace, but meaningful progress depends on collaboration. Bringing specialists together with accurate diagnostics and evidence-based decisions enables more personalized care,” Flynn said.

Siloam Hospitals Lippo Village medical oncologist Suyanto, Sp.PD, MRCP Oncology (UK), said modern oncology is no longer defined by individual expertise alone.

The best outcomes require multidisciplinary collaboration, scientific innovation and continuous knowledge exchange, Suyanto said, adding that the hospital is committed to incorporating advances in cancer care.
