The main catalyst for all markets around the world to move in April 2025 is Donald Trump's import duties. Imports into America from China will have to be taxed at a mind-boggling 145%. It's worth noting that China this week first announced duties on goods from the U.S. of 84%, and later announced duties of 125%. Such mutual countermeasures will lead to nothing but price hikes, which should hit people's wallet hard. As a result, cryptocurrencies are falling for now. Investors do not know what actions to expect from the U.S. authorities, and prefer not to invest in risky assets with high volatility.

Against the background of what is happening, the published data on inflation in the U.S. for March was very positive. The annual rate fell from 2.8% to 2.4% in February. There was a 0.1% overall price drop in March. This is the first such occurrence since May pandemic 2020. Nevertheless, crypto investors met the certainly positive news rather coldly. For now, all their attention is absorbed by Trump's new extravagant actions.

Bitcoin rose on Friday and is on track for a significant weekly gain, helped by a sharp rally earlier in the week following signals that US President Donald Trump may take a softer stance on trade tariffs.

UK Finance Minister Rachel Reeves has unveiled plans for a “comprehensive regulatory regime” designed to make the country a world leader in digital assets. According to experts, the adoption of these regulations could make the country a “safe harbor” for cryptocurrencies.

Under the proposed rules, cryptocurrency exchanges, dealers and agents would be regulated in the same way as traditional financial companies, taking into account transparency, consumer protection and operational sustainability requirements. The Ministry of Finance said that the new Financial Services and Markets Act 2025 introduces six new regulated activities, including cryptocurrency trading, custody and staking.

The expert added that the proposed structure could provide the predictability needed to “scale a responsible digital financial infrastructure in the UK.”

Bitget exchange chief operating officer Vugar Usi Zadeh also expressed optimism about the new rules, saying that they “carry a positive effect” for the industry.

It should be noted that the final versions of the rules will not appear until 2026.

Philippine Congressman Miguel Luis Villafuerte has proposed a bill to create a strategic reserve of bitcoins, according to which the government would have to accumulate a total of 10,000 BTC. Bill 421, introduced by Villafuerte, proposes that the Central Bank of the Philippines purchase 2,000 bitcoins annually for five years and store the assets in cold storage for at least 20 years. The legislator noted:

If the bill is passed, the Philippines will join the list of countries that consider Bitcoin a strategic national asset, alongside El Salvador and Bhutan. The US and China are among the largest sovereign holders of Bitcoin, with their reserves consisting mainly of confiscated assets.

According to Bitbo, governments around the world own a total of 517,296 BTC, which is about 2.46% of the total number of bitcoins, which is 21 million.

Memecoin traders on the BNB Chain network who suffered losses will receive $45 million worth of BNB (BNB) cryptocurrency.

BNB Chain and the meme token platform Four Meme Launch will conduct a "Reboot" airdrop to support traders who lost money due to recent turmoil in the digital asset market. Participants include owners of over 160,000 cryptocurrency storage accounts that traded memecoins last week.

Randomly selected winners will receive $45 million worth of BNB. The distribution will begin this week and end in November. Therefore, traders don't need to do anything to receive the digital assets; they can only rely on their luck.

The lack of a service to verify whether a crypto storage address is included in the list of eligible recipients has left meme token traders with legitimate doubts about the airdrop's fairness.
