A nice friend slipped us an info that Proton R&D will propose an SUV to its board of directors.
This is a really new development as the MD (Datuk Syed Zainal) once told us that an SUV is a niche segment and it is financially better for Proton to just rebadge one and sell it.
But our friend said this SUV is catered for the foreign market, which means it will be exported.
The concept model is based on an Exora, with the rear cut off to make it into a five seater. The rear is a rip-off design from the new Lexus RX. Basically, it looks like our poor Photoshopped picture here.
Obviously more work will have to be done, especially on the design because an Exora with an RX tail will not work here, or anywhere else it is targeting.
The project codename is Iguana and it does sound very interesting. We hope the end product gets a new name as Iguana sounds too close to VW's Tiguan.
The question is, should Proton venture into the SUV category?
Betul ke info nie? Ade insider/vendor Proton boleh bantu?
