President Prabowo sets up task force on layoffs, labor welfare

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto said he has issued a presidential decree to establish a task force on layoffs mitigation and labor welfare.

"I have issued Presidential Decree No. 10 of 2026 on the formation of a task force on layoffs mitigation and labor welfare," he said during the 2026 International Workers’ Day event at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on Friday.

He said the government will continue to stand by workers, especially those at risk of losing their jobs amid global economic uncertainty.

"Do not worry, we will defend workers' interests. Those at risk of layoffs will be protected," he said.

The task force will be implemented soon as part of efforts to protect workers and the public.

Prabowo also said the government is ready to take action against companies unable to sustain operations.

"If businesses fail, the state will take them over and defend the Indonesian people," he said.

He added that despite global uncertainties, Indonesia remains relatively stable.

The president also expressed optimism about achieving energy self-sufficiency in the near future.

He concluded by encouraging workers to continue contributing to the nation.

"Good luck with your work and struggle. Long live workers, long live the people," he said.
