Prabowo targets 30,000 village cooperatives operational by 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has set a target for 30,000 "Red-and-White" village cooperatives to be fully operational by the end of 2026 as part of a broader drive to strengthen rural economies and empower small businesses.

Speaking Friday during his annual state address before the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Parliament Complex, Prabowo emphasized that building robust village cooperatives is vital to creating a self-sustaining, people-centered national economy.

"Our target is 30,000 cooperatives operating optimally by the end of 2026," Prabowo said.

"Targets must be set high so we push ourselves to work harder. God willing, we will get there."

Currently, 10,000 of the Red-and-White Village Cooperatives (KDKMP) are operational, though only 3,300 are functioning at full capacity while the rest undergo structural adjustments.

To operate optimally, Prabowo explained, each cooperative must be equipped with basic utilities, digital inventory systems, and transport vehicles to serve as reliable "offtakers"—guaranteeing the purchase and transport of local agricultural and fisheries produce.

"There will no longer be spoiled harvests because no one buys them or because there are no trucks to transport them—no more spoiled mangoes, tomatoes, or carrots," Prabowo added.

The initiative aims to eliminate supply-chain bottlenecks at the village level, ensuring rural farmers and fishers have direct access to markets without risking crop loss.
