Ministers review national school revitalization program in Bogor

Bogor (ANTARA) - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno inspected revitalization works at a public Islamic junior high school in Bogor City, West Java, on Wednesday to ensure the effective implementation of the national school upgrading program.

Speaking alongside Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar, Pratikno said the school revitalization program is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s key initiatives to improve the quality of human resources through education.

He noted that the government has allocated Rp13.28 trillion (more than US$723 million) for the physical rehabilitation and upgrading of public and religious schools nationwide, beginning in 2025.

“The revitalization program covers 17,573 educational institutions,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister Umar expressed hope that the revitalization of the school in Bogor would encourage students to study more diligently.

“Praise be to God, there have been significant improvements here. The roof, which was previously at risk of collapse, has now been properly repaired. The worn-out desks have also been replaced,” he said.

He emphasized that the program demonstrates the government’s strong commitment to providing safe and comfortable learning environments for students across the country.

“President Prabowo pays close attention to both public and religious schools. There is no discrimination, both are receiving equal support,” Umar affirmed.

The minister also expressed confidence that the nationwide school renovation program would motivate students and be welcomed by the broader public.

Meanwhile, Public Works Ministry Director General of Strategic Infrastructure Kuswara said the budget allocated for upgrading the 23-classroom school in Bogor amounted to Rp5.5 billion (approximately US$306,000), consisting of Rp4 billion for construction works and Rp1.5 billion for furniture procurement.

“Eleven classrooms have been completed and are already in use, while the remaining 12 classrooms are currently in the finishing stage,” he said.

The school revitalization initiative is part of the government’s quick-win programs outlined in Presidential Instruction No. 7 of 2025.

The program serves as a strategic instrument to rehabilitate, repair, and develop educational infrastructure in order to create better learning environments for students.
