Rodriguez to cost £50m - report

United have been warned they will have to pay top dollar to land James Rodriguez

The Sun reports that Zinedine Zidane will not allow his player to leave on the cheap - even though the Colombian has been struggling for minutes and £50m has been mooted

Rodriguez’s father has also warned that his son won’t be moving anywhere in January, so a summer move would be more likely

The Telegraph also claims his arrival would spell the end of an Old Trafford career for Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney, Memphis Depay or Jesse Lingard

However, it might not take Rodriguez arrival to make that happen. Depay is almost certainly off this month, while Young is struggling to make the bench when everyone is fit and Rooney is no longer anything like first choice

In fact, he might have been injured for three games but United have barely noticed. It is difficult to see what he would have added against Sunderland, Boro or West Ham

Good news for Manchester United in their Thomas Muller pursuit

Change of circumstances

Manchester United have hit a brick wall more than once in their pursuit of Thomas Muller. Either Bayern Munich were not interested in selling or he was not interested in joining

That might be about to change. Simply put, the forward is having a bad season. Bayern are top of the Bundesliga and through to the last 16 of the Champions League – but Muller has taken a bit of a backseat in their dominance since Carlo Ancelotti became their manager in the summer

Muller’s misfortune

Having scored 32 goals in 49 appearances last season, he’s followed up with just four goals in 22 appearances so far this season. There’s no clear role for Muller in Ancelotti’s system. Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus outlined this in his column for Bild: “It will be really tough for Muller to fight himself back into the starting XI in the second half of the season. There is not really a position in Ancelotti’s formation that suits him

“Arjen Robben is a better option on the right wing and Bayern do not really play with a support striker

“They are playing an attacking midfielder behind Robert Lewandowski instead and I think Thiago Alcantara is the right man for that role. He is much more flexible than Muller.”

Will Bayern consider cashing in on the 27-year-old next summer? Will United still want him?
