Learn The Iceberg Illusion The Fallacies & Reality.png

We often get mesmerized by someone’s above the surface success and don’t factor in all the below the surface opportunity-costs they paid to achieve that success.

This is the ‘iceberg illusion’. It’s been a fav analogy of mine for years. And yet, this just might be a better visual for sport than the ‘iceberg illusion’.

You see… the hyper focus on outcomes is one of the biggest failings (or façades) that comes from social media. It creates a false impression of what leads to success.

We see the success, but not the work that went into it… The unseen hours, necessary failures, setbacks, crises of confidence, the not-now’s (to the countless asks), the loneliness, the late nights and early mornings; and, all the wobbling that comes before the walking—much less running.

There are no shortcuts. There are no overnight successes.

The iceberg doesn’t move quickly. It’s not sped up. It just moves consistently; at often a barely discernible speed.

Excellent article! Yes, there is no fast, big and easy money on Forex as some people think. You need to be ready for a lot of serious work to study this market in order to be able to start earning not much, but more stably.

The iceberg analogy perfectly captures the hidden struggles behind success. Social media often distorts reality, but true achievement comes from consistent effort, setbacks, and perseverance. Definitely more articles like this would be great! Keep sharing your insights!

Absolutely, that’s such a powerful point. Social media often distorts the true journey to success, making it look like a series of leaps, rather than the consistent, sometimes painful grind behind the scenes. It’s the long hours, the failures, and the resilience that build true success, not just the end result we see. It’s about being in it for the long haul and understanding that the iceberg moves slowly, but steadily—there’s real strength in that quiet consistency.

When you start trading Forex, you often see only the tip of the iceberg — charts, price action, and trades. But the reality is much deeper: hidden risks, psychological traps, uncertainty, and a long learning process. In order to be a successful trader, it is important to understand not only the visible part, but also the hidden aspects of the market, such as risk management, trading psychology, and understanding analysis and economic factors.
