Derivatives Trading Volume Nears 200,000 Contracts on 29 October 2025
Bursa Malaysia’s derivatives market recorded its highest-ever daily trading volume on 29 October 2025, with 197,458 contracts traded, surpassing the previous record of 178,380 set on 29 May 2024.
Crude Palm Oil Futures (FCPO) led with 118,172 contracts, driven by month-end repositioning and volatility in the vegetable oils complex. The 3rd month benchmark January 2026 contract eased RM65 to RM4,252/MT, tracking declines in soybean oil and crude oil. Sentiment was also shaped by Indonesia’s B50 biodiesel mandate and forecasts of a 10% rise in production.
Meanwhile, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Futures (FKLI) trading was buoyant as investors adjusted portfolios ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting and reacted to soft earnings from key blue-chip stocks.
This record volume reinforces the increasing relevance of derivatives in facilitating risk management and price discovery amid changing global and domestic market conditions.
