Indonesian president donates 1,098 cattle for Eid al-Adha

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has donated 1,098 cattle for Eid al-Adha celebrations, distributing the sacrificial animals to regional governments, Islamic boarding schools, religious institutions, and community leaders nationwide, officials said on Tuesday.

Deputy State Secretary Minister Juri Ardiantoro said 598 cattle would be distributed to all 38 provinces and 514 districts and cities, while another 500 would go to educational and social institutions.

“For Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah, the president is donating 1,098 sacrificial cattle across Indonesia,” Juri told reporters at the presidential palace complex in Jakarta.

He said the number of cattle exceeded the number of recipient regions because 46 areas lacked animals meeting the president’s weight standard of between 800 kilograms and 1.3 metric tons.

As a result, those regions would each receive two cattle instead of one to compensate for the unavailability of larger animals locally, Juri said.

“The presidential cattle standard ranges from 800 kilograms to 1.3 tons. Regions unable to provide cattle of that size will receive two animals,” he added.

In addition to regional governments, 500 cattle will be distributed to Islamic boarding schools, educational institutions, religious social organizations, community figures, and clerics.

Juri said the donated cattle included premium breeds such as Simmental, Limousin, Ongole crossbreeds, Brahman, Angus, Bali cattle, Friesian Holstein, Belgian Blue, and Charolais.

All animals have veterinary health certificates, are more than two years old, male, and free from physical defects, fulfilling Islamic requirements for sacrificial animals, he said.

“These are premium-quality cattle with very good standards,” Juri said.

The procurement of the 1,098 cattle was coordinated by the State Secretariat Ministry, the Presidential Secretariat, the Agriculture Ministry, regional livestock agencies, and the Indonesian Cattle Breeders and Feedlot Association (APPSI).

All sacrificial cattle were sourced from local breeders, with the government aiming to support domestic livestock productivity and strengthen Indonesia’s cattle farming industry through the initiative.

Prabowo also instructed officials to ensure the sacrificial meat reached communities in need through local governments, religious institutions, and trusted community leaders, Juri said.
