Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia will submit its latest climate commitment — the Second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) — ahead of President Prabowo Subianto's participation at the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23.

Deputy Environment Minister Diaz Hendropriyono said after a meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday that the document will be submitted to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat before the September 20 deadline.

"We must ensure that our Second NDC, our emissions reduction commitment for 2031–2035, is submitted no later than September 20, because the President will attend the UN General Assembly on the 23rd," he said.

The new NDC is being prepared in line with Indonesia's economic growth projections of 6.3 percent, 7 percent, and 8 percent. Hendropriyono did not disclose the emission reduction targets under each scenario.

Alongside the NDC, Indonesia is also drafting its National Adaptation Plan (NAP) to strengthen resilience to climate change.

Although not mandatory, the NAP is considered crucial for archipelagic nations like Indonesia, which are highly vulnerable to climate impacts. The plan is expected to be submitted to the UNFCCC by the end of the year.

Under its current Enhanced NDC, Indonesia has pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 31.89 percent through domestic measures, and up to 43.2 percent with international support by 2030.
