Indonesia expands paralympic training center facilities

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is expanding the Indonesia Paralympic Training Center (IPTC) in Central Java, adding new facilities to strengthen athlete development and support preparations for international competitions.

The government is continuing construction of the IPTC in Karanganyar to improve training infrastructure for athletes with disabilities.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said in Jakarta on Tuesday that Phase II will prioritize an education building and a sports arena, which are considered essential for athlete development.

The expansion plan is based on operational needs identified by the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC).

The project includes an education facility with capacity for about 400 people, a team-sports training center, a connecting skybridge, and upgraded power infrastructure.

Hanggodo said the additions are intended to improve mobility and operational efficiency throughout the training complex.

He added that installation of hybrid generators had been delayed after power-capacity requirements were increased, but completion remains a priority.

State builder PT Nindya Karya welcomed the continued development, saying the project is being adjusted to better meet users' needs.

The company said the modifications reflect its commitment to supporting sustainable infrastructure that delivers long-term benefits for Indonesia's Paralympic athletes.

The new facilities will complement the existing 80,000-square-meter complex, which includes sports venues, a swimming pool, a soccer field, an athletics track, and accessible athlete housing.

The government expects the expanded IPTC to strengthen Indonesia's Paralympic sports ecosystem and enhance athlete preparation for future international events.
