Indonesia, Australia expand audit cooperation​

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Supreme Audit Board (BPK) and the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) agreed to deepen cooperation on public sector auditing, focusing on institutional capacity, technology and governance after two decades of bilateral collaboration.

BPK Chair Isma Yatun hosted Australian Auditor-General Caralee McLeish in Jakarta for the 2026 Senior Management Dialogue.

"This partnership has produced tangible results through initiatives that strengthen institutional capacity, support organizational development and promote shared learning," Isma said in a statement on Monday.

She said the two institutions have collaborated for more than 20 years through staff secondments, capacity-building programs, technical assistance and knowledge-sharing.

Isma said the partnership had produced key initiatives, including the 2021 Remote Audit Guidelines, the 2024 Integrity Management Framework and the 2026 Draft Performance Report Audit Manual.

She said the initiatives demonstrate the continued expansion of Indonesia-Australia cooperation in strengthening public auditing.

The dialogue, held on July 7 in Jakarta, also discussed ways to enhance the role of supreme audit institutions internationally.

The two sides exchanged views on improving audit quality, increasing stakeholder engagement, using artificial intelligence in auditing and strengthening knowledge management.

Following the dialogue, BPK and ANAO leaders paid a courtesy visit to House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani.

BPK said the meeting was expected to strengthen cooperation between audit institutions and the two countries' legislatures to improve governance, public accountability and oversight of state assets.
