Govt bolsters collaboration to protect human trafficking victims

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs is strengthening its strategic collaboration with the National Anti-Human Trafficking Network to optimize protection, rehabilitation, and empowerment efforts for victims of human trafficking.

Speaking at the national meeting of the organization in Jakarta on Monday, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated that the involvement of various agencies—including civil society—is vital, as the government cannot combat human trafficking alone.

"The government needs participation from various stakeholders so that efforts to address human trafficking become more effective and comprehensive," he said.

Saifullah noted that Social Affairs Ministry data recorded over 128,000 human trafficking survivors receiving rehabilitation and support services between 2011 and 2026.

Specifically, from January 2024 to July 2026, the ministry provided social rehabilitation and support to over 3,000 human trafficking victims, helping them regain independence within their communities.

To that end, the ministry is opening up its network of rehabilitation centers and safe houses to the organization, allowing the network to leverage these facilities to expand the reach of victim protection.

At Monday's event, the Ministry of Social Affairs was among four government bodies that signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Anti-Human Trafficking Network.

National Anti-Human Trafficking Network Chairperson Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo explained that this joint commitment represents a tangible effort to fight human trafficking, which is classified as an extraordinary crime.

She specifically emphasized that the MoU signed with the ministry lays a critical foundation for streamlining communication and coordination, while accelerating data exchange on tackling trafficking syndicates and supporting victim recovery.

"We hope that with this collaboration and MoU, communication and coordination will go much more smoothly, allowing for swift action," she emphasized.
